I'm sure she's cool in person, but she was so totally invisible during her season (and utterly bland whenever she did speak) that I'm at a loss as to how anyone can have strong feelings about her one way or the other. Julie Berry. Boring and vaguely whiny, and again, not a strong enough personality for me to understand how she managed to get fans. That Catalie person from Micronesia. She has fans. I find that so weird. Sydney. Gosh, she's pretty. Is that why people like her? Because again, I'm sure she's fine in real life, but she was utterly bland on the show. Quite possibly the most beautiful contestant ever, but her portrayal was blander than tapioca. And this season, my WTF contestant is Monica. Monica. Has fans. So bizarre. I feel bad that there aren't any men on my list, but I can't think of any men with vocal fans whose appeal I don't 'get.' I may hate some of them, mind, but by that very token, I can certainly understand how they arouse strong feelings. Same goes for polarizing women like Ami, Morasca, Parvati, etc. Or Kathy VO, who I nearly put on this list, but then remembered how badly I always wanted to punch her in the face whenever she was on my TV screen. I guess if she can make me want to hit her that badly, then I can understand how she could make others love her. But then, I rather like the fact that there are fanbases I don't understand. Life would be boring if people couldn't mystify you every now and again.

People like Catalie (aka Clementine) usually get fanbases based upon one random person liking her for no reason and then supporting her throughout the season despite her frequent bouts in obscurity. The same thing happened with Brett this season. However, in Catalie's situation I grew to like her after her bizarre wtf-worthy m.orph from UTR-OTTNN5 in the matter of one episode. I kinda felt bad about her position on Tagi because she really only related to Sue, who ultimately wound up trashing her at FTC in a completely unnecessary way. Even when she tried to connect with Pagong, her intentions were always seen as devious and wishywashy. Even though there are more memorable people from Borneo that people immediately remember (Rich, Rudy, Sue, Colleen), Kelly played a very important part in the season. Her presence is much more noticeable when you rewatch it. I don't think she should have won, but I'd say that she's one of the best runner-ups around. 4-3 isn't too shabby. It's a shame she was never asked back for any All Star season because she truly is a Survivor legend, and she has unfairly been forgotten throughout time. X. So much X.

Kelly is one the most complex and interesting players ever. I look at Kathy O'Brien's fans who vaunt her supposedly similar edit and laugh at them.

I think that time has not been kind to Kelly, partly because the entire "are alliances evil or not?" dilemma just seems foolish to people who started watching the show in the later seasons, and also because she does not meet what over time have become established as physical attractiveness standards for young women on the show. I don't think Kelly's ugly by any means, but she's...well, normal-looking. The show no longer casts normal-looking young people, so by later season standards she comes across as lacking in charisma. The show rarely casts introverts anymore either, which might be another factor in Kelly seeming like a lackluster contestant to some viewers. I was never a big Kelly fan, but whenever I rewatch Borneo, I'm struck once more by how complex her character treatment was.

It seems like she truly took the "Every man for himself" motto literally and didn't expect anyone to try and manipulate the deck(Of votes) in their favor. And looks are in the eye of the beholder. She's not a total knockout, but she's not ugly or plain by any stretch of my imagination. But I have an eclectic taste, so I'm possibly in the minority with this view.

I mean, I look at the wars I have had over Shii Ann fan's at other message boards and here, especially during both of Shii Ann's disastrous performances on Survivor and they refuse to acknowledge her lack of abillity to play. Add to it the love affair that David Bloomberg at RealityNewsOnline.com has for her and it makes things worse. I mean, They even rather then have an edit of Shii Ann's wikipedia article they were able to get it deleted from Wikipedia when I got better and better at making edits to it that were less and less glowing of Shii Ann but were within standards at the site, just to avoid letting bad things be said about her. Stupid stupid stupid Shii Ann Fans.

By real life standards, I think Kelly's quite attractive. But the young women they cast these days aren't "real life standards" sort of people. They're models and actresses, or at least aspiring models and actresses. They look like people you see on TV, but don't really look like anyone you ever see on the street (unless you live in LA, that is). It's just a very different sort of look. Kelly's an interesting case, because she was an introvert trying to play what is at heart a social game, and that was really where she foundered, IMO. She just came across as wrong to people somehow, which isn't at all uncommon for introverts who are forced by circumstance to engage in social interactions outside of their comfort zone. I have hermit-like tendencies myself, so I found her almost palpable frustration with the situation (culminating in that "I don't care what people think of me anymore! Fuck 'em!" speech) quite sympathetic. Ditto the fact that she had a special thinking spot as her place to go off and be by herself.

Natalie was my favorite fan pre show, and I liked her because of that. When I realized how screwed over she was getting by the editing team, I felt sorry for her and stayed supportive. When Jason's boot episode came around, I fell in love.
