Thanks for the compliment! Like I said, I'm not very familiar with editing, so I can only give my impressions what I think the producers were trying to accomplish.

I've said frequently that Borneo is my favorite season, but it's not necessarily the best edited season. There was frequent reusing of footage. There was the infamous "Black Gretchen" fiasco, and the opening scene of Richard and Kelly walking through the jungle to Tribal Council is far too coincidental to not be considered an indirect spoiler. Colleen's comment that "It's all about sex" being taken out of context also really annoyed me. Some of the scenes, like the panning shots of the Pulau Tiga, and the use of music, are beautiful and dramatic. The scenery is really well used. The character development is easily the best thing about the season. It's all so organic, dramatic, funny and endearing that I can watch it over and over again and not get bored. I've probably watched the season ten or more times and can quote entire scenes of dialogue.

If I had to pick the most precisely edited seasons though, I would probably pick Africa. Two moments, one being Frank's epiphany while watching the sun rise, and Ethan crossing his fingers for good luck during the final Tribal Council, were almost perfect. Marquesas also has the best cinematography of any of the seasons, bar none. The cast wasn't my favorite, but the environment totally immersed me. I hope this helps you understand me a little bit more.


ETA: I just went through the first four episodes of Borneo again. I doubt myself too much. As flawed as some of Borneo's editing is, the really good scenes are very good. I find most of the Survivor conventions, such purging things with fire, to be cheesy, but the one on the premiere episode of Borneo gave me chills. Also, the aftermath of the third immunity challenge on Borneo was also very well put together. It was spontaneous, dramatic and has elements in Campbell's mythological motifs. This is how you do it.
