There are definitely more old, deaf, stupid, easily manipulated, sympathetic, people with fetishes for old ladies etc people in the world than I expected.

I hope she makes a nice little chunk of change because there is no way in hell her second album is going to do even 1/3 this one... she's a novelty and having heard the CD I can tell her whatever made her voice special on BGT is totally lost in the studio. At least IMO. |

A lot of people also seem to like the album, even those who didn't see her on BGT, to have these sales. I only heard a few bits on Youtube and thought it was overproduced but I think for her to have this level of success, not dropping off at all from 500-600K a week, she's representing something in music people want to hear. It would be nice if the industry made the effort to sign up people based on vocal talent and trying to tap a market which is often made to feel unworthy, then they might have better sales, instead of expecting the same few names to carry them along. |

I can just picture the X Factor next year and SuBo's opening package when they do all those graphics and stats and that music in the background.

I'm still having a hard time believing Susan Boyle's CD represents something in music that people want to hear.
That said I guess I shouldn't be too surprised considering I hate most of what dominates popular music. Susan's lucky to have gotten the promo and worldwide recognition that she has though b/c if her music is something certain demographics do want to hear in music I believe there are artists out there doing it already, have been doing it for a while and do it better than Susan, they just haven't gotten the recognition or their talent or promo that she has. It really sucks to be an indie artist b/c a lot of them have a ton of talent but for whatever reason (possibly b/c they don't wish to be controlled by the likes of Simon Cowell or agree to the terms of a contract they'd get from AI or X-Factor) they don't get major label backing or promo even if their music is 1000 x better than a lot of what is pumped out by the major labels today. I like to support indie artists for this reason, and the occasionally higher price I pay for their music pays off tenfold with the quality of music I get to enjoy. Getting back on topic though. Carrie going platinum possibly <3 |

Her sales aren't based on anything other than novelty IMO. She has no song being played on radio and no public profile other than the backstory given to
her on BGT.
I've listened to her CD and it's terribly overproduced and her voice sounds generic. I'm sure she has fans who like the CD and bought it for that reason but I really think there is a good portion of the population who are buying into the "fairytale" that she represents more than her actual music. Good for her setting the charts on fire but she in no way is representative of current music tastes or even future music tastes and if she is God helps us all |
