Love this thread. One thing that always bugged me about Rudolph was that they were basically white-tailed deer. Did the animators not know what reindeer look
like? Rudolph looks like Bambi's cousin.
Charlie Brown rules. Best Christmas special ever. |

I think Garfield's Christmas special is highly underrated. I love it.

My favorite is The Year Without a Santa Claus. I wish they would re-air with the HD treatment. My obscure second favorite is Rudolph's Shiny New Year. I
don't know if it's been aired by a network since I was a kid. I think it may show up on The Family channel sometimes.
Using deer or deer/antelope hybrids instead of reindeer has been a staple for years. They used an actual reindeer for Prancer, but they mostly use deer instead. Interestingly, the reindeer are from Twas the Night Before Christmas, where Santa, the sleigh, and the reindeer are supposed to be tiny, I suppose for plausibility (the combined weight of 8 full grown reindeer, a sleigh full of presents, and one jolly fat man would probably collapse most 19th century roofs). |

Rudolph's Shiny New year was just on last weekend. ABC Fam had an all day marathon of all that stuff. I was in heaven.

Let's not forget the version of Year without a Santa Clause that NBC put on a few years ago with actors instead of claymation. Oh that was bad.

There is one show I have to watch every single Christmas, or it simply isn't Christmas to me.

Real Cindy makes me uncomfortable. She turned into some methmouth trailer type.

Oh sweet marmalade, how could I have forgotten the Very Brady Christmas???? Especially since just two days ago one of my friends and I were trying to conjure
up Carol to sing 'cause we needed a Christmas miracle. . . . I must put myself in the time out corner for awhile.

SuitSnob wrote:Awesome! Thanks for the heads up, the DVR is set. It just dawned on me that although I think of it as a Xmas special, it's really a New Year's special and thus airs after Xmas, which is why it never came up when I was scheduling all the Xmas shows. |

I intend to watch christmas episodes of shows all afternoon and evening. I think I'll go for a little Little House next. Should I do the one where
Laura's daughter gets kidnapped?

They should bring back Perry Como. But he's dead, I think.
