I like SaBu fine but alol at her winning an Oscar for The Blind Side. A nom, if it happens, is reward enough. But ah it must be so tempting to the Academy
since it would be oh-so-very-much like Julia Roberts' win...omg look she can play more than one character! REWARD HER IMMEDIATELY!
MarionGoddess must not be screwed over because of category confusion. Melanie Laurent is in the same pickle, but I think it's pretty much knocked her out of contention already. I think it's a three-horse race between Inglourious Basterds, The Hurt Locker & Up in the Air for Best Pic. I would've said Up in the Air to win before, but now I'm thinking the Basterds will take it. The industry is loving it waaaay more than I ever expected it to. Which is good for me, I thought it was a blast & a half. Bigelow seems to be walking away with Best Director just about everywhere. I think the movie is too small to actually win BP though. Like Pedolanski's The Pianist. Clooney has the edge in Best Actor. Maybe Jeff Bridges, but I think once the movie fails at the box office people will stop considering him. Jeremy Renner as the dark horse. Actress is an interesting race. Mulligan/Sidibe could split the "young ingenue" vote. Mirren/Streep could split the "veteran" vote. Leaving us with...I can't even say it. Big Bad SaBu Supporting Actor appears locked up for Waltz, but Harrelson is the spoiler. Supporting Actress seems to be a done deal for Mo'Nique. If both Up in the Air ladies do make the cut, as they should, it sadly lessens either of their chances of pulling an upset. The only other chance would be if ONE of the Basterd ladies make it, and the Academy just goes hogwild for the movie. |

pushingjate wrote:Mulligan has the British voting bloc, that's indisputable. And the British have been VERY influential the past few years in particular. Kate Winslet (at least in terms of the category placement), Marion Cotillard, Alan Arkin, and Tilda Swinton are examples of this. The actors branch have also showed their partiality towards An Education by its Best Ensemble nomination, sooo... it's looking good for her. and lol, Gabourey Sidibe is NOT young ingenue. The people who vote for Mulligan are not the type of people who would consider voting for Sidibe. In fact I think that they'd be more torn between Mulligan & Streep. Like I said before, Mirren is a non-factor. She'd come in 5th place if her competition was Mulligan, Streep, Bullock, and Sidibe. There is no "veteran" vote to be split because Mirren's performance is just fodder this year and not the revolutionary Queen role that she dominated the awards circuit with. |

I love Sandra Bullock and thought she was great in The Blind Side, but I didn't get the "Best Actress" feel from it. I couldn't even guess
who would win the Oscar at this point.
But I did see An Education today and Carey Mulligan was terrific. Granted, I haven't seen all the performances of those likely to be nominated, but I'll go with her as the best I've seen so far. I'd love to see Christian McKay get a nod for Me & Orson Welles, but supporting actor is a crowded field. Inglorious Basterds is still my favorite movie of the year. It's the film I've been most entertained by. One of my friends that I saw it with hates all Tarantino movies and loved this one. |

I think it was the right movie at the VERY right time, but the most deserving Oscar winner at least recently was:
Biggest snub ever was Roberto Benini winning for Life is Beautiful over Ian McKellen for Gods and Monsters |

I was glad Sean Penn won, especially over Mickey Rourke. Good call on the Academy.

Here are some odds:
2010 Golden Globe Awards - Odds to win Best Picture
2010 Golden Globe Awards - Odds to win Best Director
2010 Golden Globe Awards - Odds to win Best Actor (Drama)
2010 Golden Globe Awards - Odds to win Best Actress (Drama)
2010 Golden Globe Awards - Best Comedy/Musical
WTF? Fat black gurl from Precious is gonna win the Golden? Jesus I'll flip shit. I hated her character. |

The further away from 1/1 the shittier your chances are. 1/2 means that your odds are even better than 1/1. Basically, if my odds are 7/1, I will get 7 dollars
back for every 1 dollar I bet shall that person wins. If my odds are 1/2, I get back 1 dollar for every two dollars I bet. The bookies try to make the odds so
an even amount of money is going into each person.

Accordign to the post, Tucci not Harrelson was the supporting actor spoiler. Bullock will e in fifth if she even is nominated. White ladies helping po blacks
roles are a dime a dozen.

I don't get all the Inglorious Basterds love, the whole movie was one bloated, indulgent piece of crap. It wasn't even about the Basterds, they were
just a glorified subplot. the ebst description of the movie I've read is this: "So this movie is just like Valkyrie except that instead of being a
tribute to real-life heroics, it's comic-book fantasy bullshit" If this movie gets a nom for best picture then it will be true that the Academy will
jizz all over anything that has Holocaust written all over it.

Well I lurved it. If Inglorious Basterds wins Best Picture I'd be OK with it. It was extremely entertaining and beautifully shot...suspenseful...I'd
see it again.
