No, it is a guiding philosophy (NOT rigid guidelines) but it still should be updated to reflect more recent trends in the editing. If it were a perfect formula, no revisions would be necessary. Revisions to the Edgic philosophy would only be required if Russell or Brett won. A win by any of the other three would only necessitate tinkering to guidelines which are flexible enough to accommodate such tinkering anyway.

I agree that she has a story and her edit can aptly be explained, but the current guidelines don't really account for this. Even you admit that she is a more extreme case of UTR than usual (for a winner), so a guideline or two (INV/ ignored in long stretches) could be 'tinkered' to account for this so that it is not an unprecedented thing.

Apparently it's extremely spoiled. Running the risk of having it spoiled for me is too high, possibly. Then again, spoilers always leak into picks every season unfortunately... but I mean if there's an entire season spoiled, there may be no credibility in having contenders next season. Rather, just vote on ratings so we can have a database for trends. It's not like we'll get any credit next season even if we do get it.

If you know who the finalists are, you should have a pretty good sense of who will win right from the get go (assuming that we don't have an Russell type visibility hog).

Unfortunately I think that spoilers always creep in for winner picks, and spec about what'll happen next, both based on spoilers the poster read. I admit I often suspect spoilers when people go around supporting very UTR people early on. I'd suggest avoid reading posts of people who you know read spoilers, or who start to post some way out in left field edgic picks with no real edgic or logic basis that they can explain. It was suggested in a previous season to set up a spoiler free edgic forum, someone did, but no one really used it, partially because we're all used to sucks, and how would we get new members to replace the old ones if we all started posting at some invite only place? It's leaking everywhere, people are posting spoilers in just about every forum and don't give a shit. Of course the admins can't delete them all when they appear, they don't sit on this site 24/7 looking for spoilers. Another thing to look out for is if someone posted something in spoiler tags, if you quote them you'll see what's inside the tags even if you didn't click it open. Next season might as well be already tossed in the trash with the entire boot-list leaked and idiots spoiling everywhere. I read them but I keep spoilers to myself and don't let them get involved in my Edgic choices.

The entire bootlist is spoiled, and even if edgic correctly predicts the winner everyone will say it was because of spoilers. You can still have fun doing edgic, just don't expect any bragging rights.

That way people who want to follow the edgic guidelines can do so, people who want to use stories/themes to pick the winner can do so, or any other criteria (aside from spoilers...but who are we kidding?) to pick a winner. That's basically what has happened this season anyway. Only a few people are actually using edgic, otherwise Jaison would have been the overwhelming pick. People just use this thread to post their winner picks even if it's not edgic-based because it's the busiest thread in Spec. Panurge's thread is getting some action this season, but you might as well merge edgic and story analysis into one thread. Even the Natalie supporters admit that their pick is based on story, not on edgic guidelines.
