I have no problem using edgic to document each players editing and visibility, but ultimately using storylines to determine who wins.

We look at the editing, discuss past trends, and make our choices. Natalie's first 3 episodes, and mid-merge edit, are on-par with no-names like Susie and Becky. I'm disappointed in her win for the fact that it defies so many of our guidelines. I have to wonder, was Russell's visibility presence the reason? The answer is Yes. I picked Mick, even though his edit started to lack, because Russell was taking up so much time. The problem is, however, that I didn't look at Natalie because the neglect was so much worse. I'm puzzled. Even watching this reunion now, it's so... what? Something doesn't feel right. Natalie's winner highlight reel was her in challenges and a confessional (obviously from the first day) that was never shown. Why did the editors do this? I think they've masked her because she was so connected to such an evil force. The only way to validate her win, without people thinking "WTF", was to make her likeable. They did that, but I still am unsure of why she was neglected so horribly. The future of Edgic: I'm really unsure, at this point. This kind of thing puts everyone in contention for an edit like Natalie. Is it possible to eliminate people anymore? We'd have to focus more on the story, now, which makes me question the purpose of Edgic. I hate to say it, but when you have someone like Russell.. maybe Edgic doesn't apply. RedWing brought it up all season, Russell isn't just high visibility... it's ridiculously high. Mick and Natalie, combined, must have had 5 confessionals total in the finale. Brett had maybe 3? Russell... must have had, at least, 15. The hope for Edgic? I don't think a season like this will happen again. The editors and producers probably know, after this response, not to do something like this again. I doubt they anticipated the Russell support to have momentum. However, if it does, we'll know right off the bat. To those who may say I was ignorant or arrogant, look pages back in my return post: Is Mick China Amanda or the Winner? I picked the latter, but I didn't ignore the former--the chance was there. Edgic is fun. I was wrong. I didn't have fun this season, but not because I was wrong. Edgic transformed into something ugly, this season, and as much as people would like to attribute that mood to my posts, I think many at the same time can agree that it was those who badgered me that ruined the fun that Edgic once held. Next season? I'll see what we decide. As of now, I'll be keeping ratings and having my own chart going, maybe I'll pop in to post it... possibly read some posts that I trust, but I will be very wary. I do not think Edgic should retire just yet. LMFAO. Too long, didn't read, but DID confirm you're a fucking loser, and when you die there wont be anything in this world that shows you existed because you contributed nothing. Better to be not remembered at all than be remembered as an ass like you.

Maybe in the older seasons, it was all about crafting a story (but even Tina was not a big personality in Outback, nor was Vee in Marquesas), but today, the editors go for whats entertaining. They just edit the best footage they can to get ratings. This is a reality show, not a scripted television show.

Tell us, Blake, how come the only season's your edgic pick is correct are coincidentally the same seasons where the winner is spoiled pre-season?

Mick was the right amount of airtime early on but when it all added up to nothing, it was clear he wasn't going to win. I didn't need a spoiler to tell me that. And contrary to popular belief, Mick was speculated immediately as the winner when the F3 leaked. It was only later that Natalie was considered the winner. Support for anyone in the finale seemed ridiculous, but there was no to turn to. Jaison even without the F3 spoiler was seemingly the personal growth storyline that we always seem to see with the final episode nowadays. Brett was the typical UTR/INV person to make it far. Mick was the typical UTR finalist that was gonna get slammed for doing nothing, ala Becky/Cassandra. Russell/Natalie were the two I was in between after the merge episode because they had huge episodes there. Natalie winning means the INV rule can officially be bounced and the merge episode is important, regardless of it being 12 people, 10 people, 9 people, or 8 people. Even though Natalie didn't have a strong first episode, she had small key moments, being named in the dumb ass girl alliance and Betsy and her talking about how Russell can't be trusted, that it was women's intuition to not trust him. It was all there for Natalie, but it was just overlooked for the next Amanda in Mick. But still to be fair, Natalie was overlooked because she was not the typical winner, even for UTR winners. Blake, please don't kid yourself. I've been waiting all season to call you out for obviously using spoilers. You had zero justification for picking Mick, he violated several rules and was a bland, toneless player with zero complexity. You are a huge spoiler reader every season and they need to add a lurker bar so we can notice you and call you out publicly. I chose not to during the season so that people wouldn't cry that I spoiled them by saying a Mick supporter was spoiled. You would go out of your way to always find bullshit reasoning for Mick to win and discount anything for any other player, especially targeting Natalie after it was rumored in spoilers that she beat Russell, not Mick. I don't post because I read spoilers (ugh, I can't resist them :P), but I do some edgic of my own, especially in seasons like this one where I know the finalists but not the winner. I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said. I support what HagridOfTheDeep said. Contrary to what a lot of the alarmists are claiming, edgic is far from dead and should try to improve itself for future seasons: 1) Some winners will be hidden in favor of "interesting" OTT characters. This is especially true for female and older winners, since often the optimal strategy for them is forming alliances with more dynamic players and getting into good graces with jurors. 2) There will be a compelling (but not emphasized) story attached to the winner, early on. Mick had no story despite a strong pre-merge edit; Natalie had the underestimated "dumbass girl" story. The season was really set up for RH's ultimate comeuppance; it makes much more sense that Natalie (the object of RH's underestimation) won, not Mick. I'm enjoying the constructive debate some of the posters are engaging in. Posters like dissimilis, Jedijake, and Guat Fanfic (and I know I'm forgetting a few here) have been very good. Alarmists ("OMG EDGIC IS DEAD BECAUSE MY PICK LOST") and pissy Mick supporters (not all Mick supporters, mind you), not so much. In particular, I can do without JaimeCat22's inanities. Also, I think astro brings up a lot of good points in edgic discussions. I just wish he wouldn't take his vendetta against Blake to such extremes. He's being more annoying than Oo, for fuck's sakes.
