Yeah, I kind of think that maybe he should have kept his promise to Brett and forced a tie there at the end. It would have been risky as all hell, because
there was no way he would have beat Brett in the jury, but if Mick won the tie-breaker, perhaps some of the jurors (Brett included) would have seen Russell in
a slightly better light if he had kept at least one promise in this game.

I'm through arguing with the butthurt losers.
Russell can't read people, hence why he failed. He thought nobody would ever vote for Natalie to win = Fail. He thought he would earn the jury's respect by saying how awsome he is and taunting them with idols = Fail. He thought Mick and Natalie would be stupid enough to take him out and go to the final 3 with Brett = Fail. He thought he had the game won the second he had the last immunity = Fail. He saw saw Amber beating Rob and still didn't get that the most agressive strategist doesn't necessairly win if he's a dick to everyone else = Fail. |

Because people usually ROOT for the underdog.
You have an underdog, pretty blonde sweetheart who wins the game and beats the supposed villain of the season. And yet the villain wins the fan vote (probably in a landslide) and the sweetheart underdog doesn't even crack the top 3. This tells us that most people felt Russell deserved to win the game, and didn't really care for Natalie. I see no other conclusion one could possibly reach. The editors failed to make viewers care about the winner and did a terrible job of making people at least understand WHY she won. |

Maybe, then, Russell should've gone on American Idol where what people think matters.

Discussing and arguing are not the same thing, Wylie. Relax. It's ok to have a difference of opinion.

jethy wrote:yeah he was REAL nice to Mick and Natalie that last day when it was just the three of them sitting around. He had no reason to be mean and rude to them since the game was no longer in his hands. That and his actions at the reunion show speaks volumes about his true character and probably the real Russell that the editing all season neglected to show but the jury got to experience on a daily basis. |

This wasn't even a situation like the Amazon, where Jenna was edited to be a bitch and Matt got the underdog edit so you could understand the audience
reaction when she won.
Natalie was the sweetheart underdog and viewers still didn't like her. That tells you something about her game right there. |

pjadedd wrote: LOL. Seriously though, Russell lied to people for no reason, made promises he knew he wouldn't keep, burned sucks, emptied canteens, lied about Hurricane Katrina, antagonized everyone when they didn't agree with him, etc. Russell did this ALL to himself. He has nobody else to blame. I agree that he played a good game, sure, but he not only underestimated Natalie's abilities to socially win over the jury, but he underestimated the jury's ability to give 1 million dollars to someone that made them feel like complete crap. Deadmau5 is the OP's user name, I think that says it all. Deadmau5 (the DJ/producer from Toronto) is the biggest toolbag to come onto the EDM (specifically house/trance) in a long time. Anyone who likes him clearly is a mainstream piece of shit with no taste that probably just got into EDM last year. Loser. |

I really doubt he was cussing people out and boasting at camp. They never really showed him interact normally with the Galu members, only about strategy. |

Natalie didn't get in the top three. That's a far cry from calling her unpopular.

Who cares if Natalie was last in the vote? Fans gave Rupert a million dollars.

Excuse me, but wouldn't you be pissed off if you played as hard as he did and then lost to someone who road your coattail to the end? I know I'd be
pissed off too.
Could he have been a more gracious loser, sure, but he had every right to be pissed. He's shown throughout the season that he's really not all that great at hiding his feelings/thoughts, so it wasn't surprising that he was visibly upset over the loss. Anyways, people can try to claim Natalie played a better game all they want. IMO they're wrong. She was just the lesser of 3 evils that the jury voted for. Russell could've gone out there and given the best tribal speech ever as Natalie went in and farted all of her responses and they still would've voted for her. It was clear they had all already made up their minds on who they were voting for by their total FAIL at the questioning/comments. |

here was natalie's social game: be a chick, and hope the other chicks and desperate/possibly gay ##%$* vote for you.
Russel's opening speech was eloquent and professional. He clearly felt that the jury members would respect his ability to pull the coup of picking off galu. But the former galu were a bunch of social misfits who apparently thought this was a popularity contest for the nice girl. Erik looked like a desperate slug that was hoping to score with natalie and had the look of a social retard who never scored with girls. if anything the best social question went to Brett, who basically outed Mick as a guy who didnt take the time to get to know anyone outside his alliance. On the topic of social game, the shot of Russell's wife was very telling. She seemed far from a girly girl. Russel seems very charming to strong willed women, but doesnt do well with caddy rats like Marisa or Monica. On the jury, you had kelly, lola and monica, who as the deliberations went on you had to figure was a bloc for the chick. |

Russell ran around like a headless chicken out there. Natalie had a meatshield the entire game who would always be targeted before her, and who wouldn't
get votes. Why should Natalie stop doing that? Russell isn't going to accept being the second to Natalie. Natalie became Russ's second in command,
which is the absolute smartest thing anybody did in this game.

Mega64 wrote: Thank you, basically summed up my arguments. You gotta play it safe... or better yet, assess in-game how each of the jurors will perceive the game. I think once the merge starts, you really need to start building relations with every single person out there, and try to figure out how they will vote in the end- "objectively" (as defined by voting within the context of the game) or "emotionally" (as defined by voting outside the game's context). From there, you gotta adapt your strategy to the dominant tribal discourses and be FLEXIBLE- the number one rule in this game. If you cannot organize a counter-resistance to the dominant powers, you ride the waves, figure people out, and play your strategy accordingly. To come into the game and say "this is how I'll play and I will play it as hard as I can NO MATTER WHAT" is certainly admirable, but it won't get you the title of sole survivor. It's not an entertaining strategy as you all acknowledge, but it is a valid strategy, and it's worked time and time again. |

You just need to have empathy and win the right amount of people over. A great way to insure this doesn't happen is to stick it in their faces.

well all the interviews by the F5 (aside from him) basically confirm he told the jury you suck, kiss my ass, vote for me cause i hate all of your guts.
So much for stellar social game. |

agree with jude, russell did the worst thing possible throughout the post merge game, he strong armed people and when he got his way he shoved his victory in
their faces.
Russell was almost as sore a winner as he is a sore loser Personally I like the bravado, but hey that's just me. Russell never (maybe he thought he didn't need to) explained well enough at final tribal that he needed to play cocky to reassure himself and have confidence in his ability to win, coming in down 8-4 in numbers. He also needed to further attack Natalie and should have lied about her; I would have told the jury that Natalie was needlessly making fun of them behind their backs. I'd say Laura, she called you a religious freak and told me she's an atheist, she only pretended to be spiritual to gain a bond with you. Monica she said that you were a Latina bitch (she is a racist) and she called you Jaison a surprising intelligent Negro, but she still thinks you're a wimp and convinced foa foa to get rid of you because in her words, you're too big a wimp to beat Brett and I reluctantly went along with it |
