The only good thing about Invictus is Matt Damon. Morgan Freeman was just offputting, but ok. Someone just really needs to wrestle the camera away from
Eastwood's hands. There are at least 3 unintentional LoL's that come to my mind right away - slow motion male grunting, fakeout airplane divebomber,
and OTTN sports reporter.

The way it's shaking out right now, it looks like it's going to be a showdown between The Hurt Locker vs Up in the Air for Best Picture.Up in the Air is not going to win Best Picture thanks to the SAG snub. I think Avatar and Inglourious Basterds have picked up the most steam, although THL is the frontrunner. |

Never underestimate the power of Clooney love in Hollywood.

JaimeCat22 wrote:I agree with this statement. BUT, I just got home from seeing 'Up in the Air' and I was really disappointed. I thought it was just a good made for t.v. film. Clooney is just himself (and not deserving of an Oscar for this- go see Colin Firth in 'A Single Man' if you want to see an oscar-worthy performance) Wow, is this movie over-rated i'our'ho's. If George Clooney wins for his stale performance (and I do like him as a person..gee whiz!) but... c'mon, there are far better performances this year. Even Viggo in 'The Road' and the lead from 'The Hurt Locker'...Gerogie Boy would be pretty far down my list of picks. I wouldn't even nominate him for this blah performance. Okay, that's my show biz talk. Also the 2 women were basically fluff in the film. I found it very one-dimensional as did my two friends. Anyway, those were our collective thoughts. But, we also saw 'The Hurt Locker' which was far better in the acting category and as a film. Lot's of substance 'obviously' due to the theme but a well made film. |

500 days of summer is such a good movie. Hopefully that wins something.

I've never heard of the 500 Days of Summer...was it out quite early in the year (and who was in it?). Hopefully I can rent it. I were going to see Avatar,
but the line-ups were too long. I'm not a James Cameron fan but I'll likely see it at some point. I prefer smaller, intimate films with BUTTERS
popcorn.

I had so many friends hype up 500 Days of Summer that when I finally saw it, my only reaction was, "That's it?". I figure they maybe related to
it more because they are all similar ages to the characters in the movie and I'm a little older.

500 Days was great. I can't believe it's being consideed for awards though. I still maintain this has been a shitty year for movies.

Apparently Julia Roberts turned down both The Blind Side and The Proposal, this true? lol Sandra bounced back thanks to the diva Julia Roberts.
While I'm on the subject, what are some famous roles that were turned down? I read somewhere that Angela Basset was asked to be in Monsters Ball instead of Halle Berry, this true? |

Julia Roberts was offered the role in Shakespeare in Love, which went to Gwyneth and her Oscar win.
And has anyone seen the movie "Brothers" yet? I'm too lazy to read old pages to see if anyone discussed it. I saw it tonight, and thought it was really good although the way the story progressed seemed a bit odd to me. |
