It was introduced in Cook Islands right after the "more deserving" Terry was not taken to the final two in Exile Island, with the rationale from Jeff that you would get better winners and less lopsided results because the final immunity challenge winner couldn't take a sure loser to the final two. Now based on this season, when if there was a final two, Natalie might not have even made it there, and Russell could have potentially beat Mick. I'm not saying Russell would have been deserving, but I believe production does believe that, and can't help but wonder if the final three finally backfired on them.

No, this season proves Final 3 can be a good thing.
Had it been a Final 2, Natalie/Mick would take Russell with her/him, win, and everyone, including Russell himself, would yell "BITTER JURY" and say they were all "anti-Russell" votes. This Final 3 shown that Natalie won, fair. and. square. |

If this season had a final 2, more likely than not there:
A) Wouldn't have been as many jurors, it would have gone back to a 7 jury. B) Had the jury been 7, they wouldn't have merged at the final 12, most likely than not final 10. Even had Galu lost both challenges, Shambo wouldn't have survived, and the season would have played out the exact opposite. Even John wouldn't have switched over in a 6-4 merge. |

and I made it clear that I have no personal bias for or against any of these contestants. I believe this season's results undercuts all of production's
arguments in favor of the final three twist. Thus the numerous arguments against the final three in favor of the final two win out, including:
1. The final three gives players less of an incentive to shake things up towards the end, because they are at the bottom of their alliance. Rob Cesternino in Amazon kept switching sides to assure himself of a final two spot, which ironically didn't work for him, but made the season really exciting. 2. It cheapens the "you've gone as far as you can go in this game" and the eventual winner doesn't have to survive as many votes to get to face the jury. |

To my knowledge, the final 3 twist has now been used 5 times (Exile Island, Fiji, China, Gabon and Samoa) and only once as all three finalists received votes
(China, which I believe had a 4-2-1 vote). I don't think the final 3/2 debate changes anything to the outcome of Samoa, but it's clearly a failure
overall.
