47 - Homer's Phobia
The Simpsons tries to sell an old object, which belonged to Marge's grandmother, at a collectives store and begin a relationship with John, the store owner. Homer takes a liking to him. Marge then informs Homer that John is gay and Homer refuses to see him again. Paranoid, Homer notices changes in Bart's behavior.
Homer fears that John has turned his son into a homosexual. Homer tries to make Bart more manlier but his several attempts all fail.
Bart : Dad, why'd you bring me to a gay steel mill? So Homer, Moe, Barney and Bart go on a hunting trip because it's the solution to Homer's problem according to stupid Moe.
But they get attacked by a herd of reindeer. John arrives with Marge, Lisa & Maggie and he saves the day. Homer thanks John and accepts him as a friend. This episode is really funny with a lot of great gags, unfortunately the end is too pat and also predictable. Also I hate the character of John who has an annoying voice and who also strengthen stereotypes about gays. Homer acts like a bumbling and ignorant idiot but the worse character in this episode is definitely Moe. I hate Moe, he's probably my least favorite simpson character and this episode does nothing to make me like him. Barney is just there. Needless to say, I don't like the third act. However, the first two acts are solid and funny. My favorite quotes of the episodes are :
Homer : Baaart! Where'd you get that shirt? Bart : I dunno. Came out of the closet. *Later* Homer : Marge, the boy was wearing a hawaiian shirt. Marge : So? Homer : There's only two kind of guys who wear those shirts : gay guys and big, fat party animals. And Bart doesn't look like a big, fat party animal to me... Marge : So, if you wore a Hawaiian shirt, it wouldn't be gay? Homer : Right. Thank you. Other great quotes : John : ... and Helen Lovejoy, sure, she looks blonde, but I've heard cuffs and collar don't match, if you get my drift. Bart : What are you talking about, Homer ? Where are we going ? Homer : Just a couple of good old-fashioned manly places. *puts his arm around Bart* Father and son! Homer's Brain : You're leaving the arm there too long! You wanna make it worse ? *Homer quickly yanks his arm off Bart's shoulder* Homer's Brain : No, no! He'll know you're on to him! Quick, shake his hand! Homer : Just remember, son, no matter what happens, I'll always love you. Homer's Brain : As ? As ? Homer : As a father! a father. A regular father. Homer : How can you love a box, or a toy or graphics ? You're a grown man. John : It's camp ! * Homer stares nonplussed* The tragically ludicrous ? The ludicrously tragic ? Homer : Oh yeah! Like when a clown dies. Homer : That John is the greatest guy in the world. We've gotta have him and his wife over for drinks sometime. Marge : Hmm, I don't think he's married, Homer Homer : Oh, a swinginf bachelor, eh ? Well, there's lots of foxy ladies out there. Margoe : Homer, didn't John seem a little ... festive to you? Homer : Couldn't agree more. Happy as a clam. Marge : He prefers the company of men! Homer : Who doesn't ? Marge : Homer, listen carefully. John is a ho-mo... Homer : Right. Marge : ...sexual Homer : Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Clue for the next entry : Another season finale. PS : I'm kind of busy right now because I took part in Avant Tai's TAR 7 (my first online game!). I thought I would be out after one or two legs but I'm surprisingly still standing. So I don't have a lot of time for this ranking thread. But I'll finish it. |

46 - Summer of 4 Ft. 2
Lisa realizes how unpopular she is when no one signs her yearbook.
Pwned Meanwhile, Ned asks Homer to take care of his house in Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport. The Simpsons & Milhouse go there and Lisa uses this trip as a chance to become a new Lisa Simpson.
She becomes BFF with a girl named Erin (Christina Ricci <3) and other kids, but Bart is jealous of his sister's popularity. He reveals to Lisa's friends that she's a teacher's pet. Lisa thinks she has lost her new friends, but they surprise her during her last night in Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport by saying she was a good friend.
I know this is not an opinion shared by a lot of people but Lisa is one of my Top 5 Simpsons characters (There's 5 Lisa-centric episodes waiting to be ranked). Summer of 4 Ft. 2 is kind of underrated. The most important plot with Lisa is great and solid despite the fact Bart acts like a mean hateful bastard. Homer's plot is simple but really funny too, leading to the best quote of the episode :
Marge : I don't know what you have planned tonight, but count me out When in fact Homer just wanted tu buy illegal firework (of course, it's gonna destroy Ned's dishwasher).
For all Milhouse fans like me, this episode is full of Milhouse's moment.
1 - Milhouse imitating different kind of sprinkler (Bart's look is priceless) 2 - His "Up yours, Krappabel!" (when the ring bells to announce the beginning of the day) 3 - The Dud from the Mistery Date board game looking exactly like Milhouse. 4 - Milhouse's message to Lisa in her yearbook
Milhouse totally deserves his nickname of Milooser. The reason why this episode is so low is because of the predictably moralistic ending : just be yourself and happyness and friends will follow. Guess what ? It doesn't work in real life. Also Bart is a little too mean for my taste. Great Quotes : *Milhouse runs out, while other kids sit* Krabappel : Well, I'm glad the rest of you remembered that summer vacation starts at the end of the day, not the beginning. Marge: So, did you call any of your friends ? Lisa : Friend ? These are my only friends. Grownup nerds like Gore Vidal, and even he's kissed more boys than I ever will. Marge : Girls, Lisa. Boys kiss girls. Marge : Let Lisa be alone with her new friends. Bart : They're my friends rightfully. She only got them by copying me. Lisa : *calling out* Don't have a cow, man ! Bart : See ? That's my expression. Marge : Oh, you haven't said that in four years. Let Lisa have it. Clue for next entry : Another Lisa-centric. |

spnintendo wrote:I totally forgot to mention the ending of the episode 45 - Lisa the Simpson
At school, Lisa fails to solve a riddle that several others were able to solve (including Ralph.Fucking.Wiggum). She also forgets one of her day to day tasks.
Lisa learns from Grampa that every Simpson loses their intelligence during their childhood. Lisa soon accepts that she will be very unintelligent and decides to act like Homer and Bart.
Before it's too late, she tells Springfield through a newscast to "treasure their brains". Homer attemps to prove Lisa that the Simpson can be intelligent by inviting the entire family to meet her. Unfortunately, it becomes apparent that the family is unintelligent. However, Lisa learns that the unintelligent gene only runs in the male side of the family when she discovers that the female half of the family are doctor or lawyer.
The episode ends with Lisa being able to solve the riddle she was unable to finish at the beginning.
Lisa the Simpson is an enjoyable episode with funny gags and a good story. Lisa's vision of her future is great and Homer trying to prove her daughter wrong is nice. But there's two things I didn't like in this episode. The first one is the sublot of Jasper freezing himself in order to live in the future with Apu taking advantage of the situation. It's a rather stupid and unfunny plot. The second one is the Troy McClure's educational movie about DNA which is not as good as other Troy McClure's appearances. Well, at least there's a reference to one of my favorite Poe's short story:
The Fall of the House of Usher <3 Great Quotes : Manager: I'm sorry, little girl, we don't just put people on TV! Unless of course they're replying to an editorial. Lisa: Uh, I am! *Thinking* I'm strongly opposed to.. proposition, uh, 305. Manager: You're against discount bus fares for war widows? Lisa: Uh..you bet I am.. Manager: Okay.. Make-up! Lisa: But I have something more important to say. For reasons beyond my control, I will soon become vapid, sluggish and slow witted. So before that happens, I want to share some things with you that have really meant a lot to me. Technician 1: What is she DOING out there? I'll cut off her mic. Technician 2: No, no, no. Let her speak. *Pause* I'm trying to get fired. Lisa: Isn't there anyway I can change my D.N.A., like sitting on the microwave? Dr. Hibbert: Mmm, not according to any movie I've ever seen. Lisa : I got it, woo hoo!!...I mean, splendid! Clue for the next entry : "Sugar, Oh, Honey Honey." |

44 - Boy-Scoutz N The Hood
Bart and Milhouse find 20 dollars and buy a Squishee made entirely of syrup. After a night of carousing, Bart wakes up to discover he has joined a scout troupe, "The Junior Campers". At first, Bart hates the group but then enjoys it when he finds out he can use a knife.
Despite mocking Bart's new activity, Homer agrees to participate in a river-rafting trip with his son. In a boat with Ned and Rod Flanders (or was it Todd ? I can't tell them apart), Homer loses their map and the boat gets lost in the ocean.
After being stuck out at sea for a long time, Bart, Homer, Ned and Todd/Rod discover an oil rig with a Krusty Burger on it. They are saved. Meanwhile, other scouts and guest-star Ernest Borgnine meet Jason. Episode with only one plot <3 I like this episode and I realized I like it for different reasons than other people. It's usually the first two acts which are liked by the fan but I really like the third act (with Homer, Bart and the Flanders stuck out at sea). There's plenty of great gags and one-liners, but there are also weird gags such as the burst appendix. This episode is ranked this low because I hate the part where Bart and Milhouse are "drunk" because of the Squishee. Matt Groening said it was one of his favourite scene, so he clearly has no taste (and by the way, I don't like Matt Groening, but I'll tell you why when I'll talk about the 25th episode). The best thing about this episode is the scene in which Bart criticizes an episode of Itchy & Scratchy. With Homer looking on from the couch, Lisa reminds Bart that cartoons do not simply reproduce reality, a point hammered on as a second Homer meanders past the living-room window.
Show with self-awareness <3 Other Great Gags : Homer : Oh, twenty dollars...I wanted a peanut! Homer's brain: Twenty dollars can buy many peanuts! Homer: Explain how. Homer's brain: Money can be exchanged for good and services. Bart : "Don't do what Donny Don't does"...*sighs* They could have made this clearer. Homer: How was jerk practice, boy? Did they teach you how to sing to trees? And build crappy furniture out of useless wooden logs? Huh? *chair collapses* D'oh! Stupid poetic justice. Bart: Actually, we were just planning the father-son river rafting trip. Homer: Heh heh, you don't have a son. Bart: *to himself* Look, Homer won't want to go, so just ask him and he'll say "No." Then it'll be his fault. Homer: *to himself* I don't want to go, so if he asks me to go, I'll just say, "Yes!" Homer's brain: Wait! Are you sure that's how this sort of thing works? Homer: Shut up, brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-tip! Bart: Dad, I really want you to come on this trip with me. Homer: Bart, I'd be delighted to go on your trip with you. Bart & Homer: D'oh! Homer: Oh, pardon me, Mr. "Let's ration everything", but what d'you think we're floating on? Don't you know the poem? "Water, water, everywhere, so let's all have a drink." Homer: Oh, what does it matter, we're doomed! *a seagull flies into view* Flanders: Wrong, we're saved! Seagulls always stay near land. They only go out to sea to die! *it squawks and spirals into the ocean* Homer: Woo-hoo! See that, boy? Your old man was right, not Flanders. We are doomed! In your face, Flanders! And the last clue was referencing to this :
Sugar do-do-do-do-do Oh! Honey Honey do-do-do-do-do You are my candy girl Clue for next entry : The only Grampa centric of this ranking |

43 - Raging Abe Simpson and his Grumbling Grandson in "The Curse of the Flying Hellfish"
Grampa and Bart's relationship is deteriorated after Grampa came at Bart's school. The same day, Grampa learns that one of his fellow-veterans of WWII died.
It leaves Mr. Burns as the only other living member of Grampa's squad : The Flying Hellfish. In the final days of the war, the unit had discovered several paintings and agreed on a tontine, placing the paintings in a crate. The surviving member would inherit the paintings. As Mr. Burns wants the paintings as soon as possible, he orders Grampa's assassination and hire an assassin to do the job.
In order to escape death, Grampa moves into the Simpsons house. He reveals the secret of the treasure to Bart and the two manage to steal Burns' key and leave to get the paintings.
After several adventures, Grampa and Bart succeed, but they are discovered by the State Department who give the paintings back to their rightful owner. It doesn't matter in the end since Bart and Grampa's relationship is back on good terms.
I think Raging Abe Simpson and his Grumbling Grandson in "The Curse of the Flying Hellfish" is the most underrated episode in this ranking. I never heard someone saying good things about it and I never met someone saying it's one of his favos. It's a shame because it's a great episode. It's true that there are not a lot of gags or funny one-liners but I still always liked it. I think you have to watch this episode as a mini action adventure movie, the title is a clue that it's not a normal episode. Something that drives me crazy is when people talk bad about this episode because it apparently contains "continuity errors" like they said. Hello, The Simpsons has NO continuity Well-writen plot ? Check No unfunny subplot ? Check Good gags ? Check (not a lot of it but the one present are hilarious : see Mr Burns as Marge Simpson) It's a solid episode and haters should get over it. Also, there's something I always wondered about that :
I thought it was forbidden to show a kid being threatened by a gun ??? I read somewhere that a Pokemon episode where a man points a gun at Ash was never aired. Weird. Great Quotes : Bart: Grampa! I don't mind when you spit at home, but I have to work with these people. Abe: Oh, jabberjack. Schoolhouse don't put up spittoons, I ain't responsible. *spits* Homer: Maybe it's time we put Grampa in a home. Lisa: You already put him in a home. Bart: Maybe it's time we put him in one where he can't get out. Vidal: Hola? Burns: Fernando, it's M.B. Vidal: Ah, Marion Barry. Is it time for another shipment already? Homer: Where are you two going at this hour? Bart: On a treasure hunt. Homer: Oh! Can I come? Abe: Only if you're ready to stare danger in the face, put your manhood to the ultimate test, and take... Homer: Pass. *Grampa starts sawing the anchor* Ned: *on the boat* Well, howdy-doodily, stranger! Couldn't help but notice you're stealing my boat. Abe: I'll bring it back. Ned: You ever operated a powerboat? Abe: No. Ned: Know anything about water safety? Abe: No! Ned: What do you need it for? Abe: It's a secret. Ned: Hoo-hoo, sounds spine-tingling-dingling! Just promise you'll have a good time. *hands him the keys* I like the fact that Grampa acts the same way than Homer towards Ned Clue for the next entry : a parody of a book written in 1954
