Mikester wrote:One day one of your favorites will last!! Her poor edit did not affect her positioning, just like people who are booted early are not hurt by that in the ranking. That's why my criteria is "character potential," meaning if they could have been great, I'll consider that. But there's other things I'm factoring in. |

If you're judging on character Potential, Ben needs to be near the top with Yasmin

Yay for Marisa still being in this. :) Only in one episode but more epic than at least 8 other cast members so far! :)

Glad to see Marisa and Betsy still in the game.
But Mick, Brett and Liz already out? Mike beating Mick and Brett? this list is flawed. Very much so. Jaison should've won |

Natalie's rat-killing scene alone should be enough to get her into the top 10

Lol, I knew I would get some hate for having Natalie that low.
But Mick, Brett and Liz already out? Mike beating Mick and Brett? this list is flawed. Very much so.Again, looking at character potential, personality, entertainment value, etc., Mike was simply a more interesting personality than Mick or Brett and would have been a far bigger character had he lasted as long as they did. Simple as that. He lost points for having no chance of lasting, but it still put him above those two who had little personality. |

I honestly think that Brett's voice could be a contributing factor to his (lack of) edit

12. JOHN FINCHER | ||
|
12. JOHN FINCHER, 25, "Rocket
Scientist," Los Angeles, CA.
Overall Finish: 9th Place Casting Story: Recruited for the show after his roommates encountered casting associates at a bar in Los Angeles and told them to get in touch with John. Commentary: For someone who had never seen the show prior to being recruited, John did A LOT of preparations before going to Samoa to make sure that he got into the strategy behind the game. Again, if I was rating by personal favorites I would have him John a lot higher, but I couldn't really justify having him higher than #12 in this list. Initially, I had him at #8 and then I slowly lowered him down as a few more people rose up a little bit. Personality/Character: John was a memorable character right in the first episode when he failed at the swimming portion of the opening challenge (after deciding to swim in his jeans) and had a scene devoted to him about building the shelter. He was making it far too technical than it was, and I thought this was a pretty entertaining scene. Back then, I thought it was because he was Galu's first boot and would be voted off in Episode 2. I now believe it was the only interesting thing that happened on Galu in the first three days so the editors had no choice to show it. Anyway, John disappeared for a while after that but he always had good episodes when he was shown. His pre-show interviews showed that he was pretty cocky and self-absorbed, which didn't come across as much on the show as I expected it to. He definitely thought he was more intelligent than other people, but he did not ooze the same arrogance that he did pre-game. Still, I think he had some entertaining moments and delivered some good confessionals at times, especially the "You're an idiot" one which I found to be pretty memorable. Strategy: I dare say that he was one of the few people this season strategic enough to make moves and switch up the game. He definitely knew what he was doing and there's always a couple people each season who are the "gamers." John was one of them this time. But, it seems that when he got out there, he forgot everything he had learned. He said he didn't want to make himself stand out right from the start, yet he had that scene of annoying everyone while building the shelter, and he apparently told everyone he was an engineer when he initially didn't intend to. Somehow, he seemed to get past that initial annoyance and get into a safe position in his tribe because he wasn't on the chopping block at all after that. He also got in good with Shambo and the guys in his tribe, although we didn't ever see that. After the merge, there were a few times when John made good decisions, like having his tribe vote Natalie instead of Russell at the Final Ten just incase Russell used another idol. But he probably overestimated himself a little... John liked to insult everybody else's intelligence and decision-making abilities, but he made his own fair share of stupid decisions: swimming with his jeans on, not giving four people apple pie at the Auction (a minor thing in the long run, but he had no reason not to do it), believing that Russell would actually get rid of a Foa Foa members, and - arguably - switching his vote to Laura which cemented Galu's downfall. So, my assessment is that, strategically, he had great potential, but he did screw up a lot. In another season, he'd probably be a good player. After doing this write-up, I only convinced myself that perhaps he should have been a few spots higher after all. I don't know what the general opinion of him on here is but my guess is it's a little less than it should be. #11: (Tomorrow) |

I think Natalie was responsible for Erik's boot. I mean, she got Laura and Kelly to want to take out Erik. And of course Laura and Kelly will have to inform the rest of Galu, because let's get real, Natalie going up to the other members and telling them to vote Erik wouldn't make sense. I also disagree that she wouldn't have made it to the end without Russell. I think the way Galu was fracturing, and combine that with her social game/bond with the girls, Natalie would have been the only Foa Foan that had any chance of success without Russell's idol. Who knows if she would have been aggressive without Russell? She wasn't in that position so it's hard to know. I've compared it to the island form of natural selection; Natalie realized that outspoken women (Betsy, Marisa, Liz, Laura, and eventually Monica) didn't fly, and like Darwin's finches, adapted to the situation. I don't necessarily agree with it, because there was a way to play follower and still be a strategic player, but of the final three, I feel she played the best. Russell was aggressive, but made a lot of bad moves, and his "key" move was just as important at getting Foa Foa to the end as Natalie's. How I would rank the Samoa contestants, entertainment wise: 20. Kelly 19. Mike 18. Mick 17. Brett 16. Liz 15. John 14. Ashley 13. Jaison 12. Yasmin 11. Dave 10. Monica 9. Natalie 8. Marisa 7. Ben 6. Betsy 5. Laura 4. Russell H. 3. Erik 2. Russell S. 1. Shambo

The next one out should be Monica or Dave, especially before who I think it is referred to in the spoiler. But I agree totally about John, I would have placed
him even lower because I thought he was really fucking boring and arrogant.
For your criteria, I think the top 5 will be Russell H., Laura, Shambo, Ben, Yasmin, and maybe Erik if not one of the others. |

I would've put John a little bit higher up because the audience could make sense of his reasoning. At least I could. It didn't work out for him, but
I enjoyed watching him switch his vote at F10.

And of course Laura and Kelly will have to inform the rest of Galu, because let's get real, Natalie going up to the other members and telling them to vote Erik wouldn't make sense.Okay; I agree. I just think it had already been brewing before that, but I agree that she put it into motion with Laura and Kelly, which caused the rest of the reaction. She might not even be certain to make the merge without Russell there, but if the same group of Foa Foas were at the merge, let's say that the Erik boot still happened due to Natalie, the Galus still played to take out the Foa Foas even though there were divisions between them. It's possible that Natalie would have been the last of the group left and then by that time, the remaining Galus would have fractured. How I would rank the Samoa contestants, entertainment wise:We have pretty much the same bottom 8 with the exception of Natalie, just in a different order, so that is good. I'm not looking just at entertainment. For some people, what they brought in terms of strategy either positively or negatively impacted them too, which is what made the ranking difficult because there were so many factors involved. Thanks for your thoughts, chapera rocks! Merry Christmas! :) |
