Well... it's been six months and I thought I would drop an update. I am still eating healthy and exercising. I have not gained an ounce. (Sorry Scruffy,
I didn't get fat by Christmas.) By September, I lost an additional 7 pounds and have maintained 150 since then. I just went for my annual physical and my
doctor was very happy. My cholesterol went from 225 to 134 and my triglycerides went from 187 to 48. My weight went from 210 to 150. My pants size went from
38 to 30. I'm pretty damn impressed with myself.
I am still getting asked if I'm sick though! |

Congrats on your healthier lifestyle.
Get used to people telling you that you need to gain weight but listen only to your closest and most trusted friends. There is a point where losing too much weight does make you look older and its tough to see that for yourself. |

I lost a total of 70 lbs since this time last year, but I've gained 10 of it back. I was MEGA - SIZED before; now I'm just a heavy gal. I hope to
report back to this thread this time next year and report that I've re-lost those 10 lbs and another 40 or 50. Then I'll be sex-ay.

Tres Gay wrote:Wow Tres....congrats on the weight loss! Do you have a naturally thin face, MMead? If I get below a certain weight, I get all kinds of comments about looking too thin because I tend to lose too much in my face. |

MMead7 wrote: I should compliment you on reaching your goals and more importantly, maintaining them. So kudos for that. But 5-11 and 150? Heh. You can safely add on 20 pounds but that depends on what you are. If you are a biker/triathelete, I can see that. I say it's ok to have that pie ala mode once a week now. |

Annie... I've never had a thin face and I did lose a lot of weight in my face.
B DeBrun... I'm not a biker or triathlete, but I do run a lot and it keeps me lean. I also limit the fat I eat (no red meat or pork). While I don't eat pie ala mode, I did have some pumpkin mousse pie yesterday that was awesome and low in fat! If I can get the nerve to do it, I may post a before and after pic. |

If you're maintaining a healthy weight and eating well (sounds like you are), and your doctor says your levels are all great, then you're doing
everything right. Congrats! There is reverse discrimination, true. Problem is, we so often meet people who are extremely thin who only manage it by being
unhealthy, so people jump to conclusions. It's very rude of people you meet to say shit to you when they don't know how you're living and eating.
When you see runway models walking the streets of New York, then you know what a real unhealthy weight looks like. Egads, they look like holocaust victims. But I used to keep that observation to myself. |

I think our sense of normal has gotten out of whack. While thin, 150 and 5' 11" is a normal BMI according to the CDC.
Oh, and monounsaturated fats are necessary for you. I did know of someone who messed themselves up by cutting out all fat, so do include some olive oil etc. And Tres--congratulations! You are inspiring me. Time to take another attempt. |

Tres Gay wrote: Congratulations!!! That's a good amount of weight. You're taking it off the right way too. Slowly but surely. If you lose it too fast you gain it back but some. Congrats to you too MM. It's great that you've lost it and kept it off. I've lost 73 in the past 1 1/2 years. I did gain some back (about 8) but I've lost it again. I am now almost down to the weight I was when my son died. I gained that weight in a little over a year from depression eating. I still have more to go but I'm happy to be where I am right now. I'd be happy with losing just 17 more pounds, but my ultimate goal is losing about 31to 37 more pounds. Whoever wrote that that about 100 pounds for 5 feet plus 5 more pounds per inch---that would not work for me at all. I have a large body frame. I'd look like a skeleton. |

Numbty... I love turkey and broccoli.
Ramona & Shaqnanigans... thanks for the supporting facts. I followed my doctor's advice through this whole process. My dad died of a heart attack at age 55! He was not obese, but was overweight and ate whatever he wanted. That was what motivated my to be healthy. I was literally following in his footsteps. I made sure that everything I did, from the diet to the exercising, was done in a healthy way. I am not skin and bones. I have muscle tone. There is no mistaking me for a meth head or holocaust victim. |
