OO, you're good at what you do but I feel you'd contribute more if your conception of what did the editing should have been like didn't intrude on what the editing actually was.
I don't think we should ever forget that we in edgic and the Survivor editors are in a horse and cart relationship where we, sadly, can never take on the role of the horse. The editors create and we analyze. It can never be the other way around, whatever our ideas about what should have been.
I agree with you that the producers sometimes seem to interfere with the actual game in order to achieve an outcome that they can edit a certain way. Russell's finding of the HI idols this season may be an example of this. The questionnaire reward challenge in Exile Island that was so prejudicial to Courtney Marit is perhaps another example. So might Chet's boot in Micronesia.
You would doubtlessly point to other examples. However, it doesn't change the fact that it's their show. They can do what they like and the future will be determined by ratings. And you can rant and rave as much as you want in the entire gamut of Sucks forums that are available to you for appropriate spleen-venting. However, our task in this thread is to analyse the editing of the show. What it is, not what it should be. That's why I'm here and not much in any other Sucks thread.
Avery is right in what he says about Edgic's recent emphasis on comparative edits. I thank him for his kind comments but the points he makes are valid. To compare Natalie's with Becky's or Mick's with Parvati's merely because of a similarity in ratings without reference to tone or content, is fraught with folly.
It is we at Edgic who need to try to get into the editors' heads to try to explain why they are taking some of the options they are taking. It's not for them to try to please our own individual subjective aesthetics. I say that because, rather than calling for an apocalyptic end to edgic, the show and whatever else, you would be more constructive if you contributed your considerable analyical skills to our collaborative effort.
Insert appropriate smiling emoticon here.
