maadx <3 5 songs? Really? That's spectacular! =D
And I actually saw Avatar this afternoon - it was pretty amazing, by the way - and it adds a great new layer to I See You. And hearing it play over the ending credits gave me *chills*. It's really growing on me, and I find myself singing it to myself sometimes.. so it probably can be bumped up on this list a bit =P But I'll continue on! 27. Forgiveness "Cause I can see a new horizon. The ice around my heart is melting." This is another bonus track from Spirit and it's got a pretty heavy R&B sound with a jazzy vibe. I really do think this song is good.. it's not one of those songs that would blast through a stadium and have the crowds singing along, but it's got the perfect amount of sleaze where I could hear it sung in a lounge or something. The chorus is really catchy, without abandoning its R&B feel. The one thing I have against this song is that it sounds too technical in the first half. It sounds like Leona is just singing... notes. It's one of the few criticisms of her singing, but don't worry! I hear they're working on installing a personality into her <333 The latter half of the song has some emotion in it. I don't know if it's the right kind of emotion for the nature of the song, but it still picks it up nicely. 26. Homeless "No vacancy, just emptiness; without your love, I'm homeless" Ahh this is a really sad song delivering the familiar message of 'I have nothing if I don't have you'... pretty much. But it's a gorgeous song, performed with a great amount of strength and feeling, put next to some lovely lyrics. I don't have a lot of negatives to say about this song.. which indicates that we're in the set of better songs now! For a slower paced song, this definitely holds its own, but Leona certainly has other songs that are a similar tempo that I just like better. Bonus points because this is one of the few songs off of Spirit that Leona's performed live without releasing the song as a single: |

Homeless was breathtaking. |

I'm showing my fanboy side, but Leona's voice on Homeless reminds me of the way she sang Summertime on X-Factor, and I luvs it!!! That's a great
song and fantastic performance.
I hated that Forgiveness song sorry |

Yea, like Kelly and Carrie (and pretty much anyone who wins a singing competition), Leona is a fantastic live performer and I'm trying to post as many live
performances as I can, but she hasn't performed a lot of the songs in the bottom half of this ranking.
25. Here I Am "I promise you you'll never walk alone" And Spirit takes another hit But this song really does tell a story of some sort, opening with a rather sombre tone, building into a chorus full of hope and love <3 And the song is kept simple, primarily being supported by just Leona's voice and a piano. 24. Lost Then Found "Love ain't the enemy, don't you wanna be lost then found?" Ahh this is the duet between Leona Lewis and OneRepublic, and despite ranking in the middle, it's still a really catchy pop tune. I think the fact that this is one of my lower-ranked songs from Echo speaks greatly of the strength of the album. However, I do think this song faced a similar problem to I See You, being that once I heard that Leona was recording a duet with OneRepublic, I kinda expected more. After OneRepublic released Apologize which dominated worldwide charts, followed up by Leona's Bleeding Love, both written by Ryan Tedder, I thought this song would be something timeless and epic... it's good but not spectacular. Either way, you can really hear the passion in Leona's voice in this song, so it's worth a listen if you've got the time. |

Two more!
23. Stone Hearts & Hand Grenades "You and I are not the same. There is nothing I would change" This is the hidden track that's tacked onto the end of Lost Then Found, and this does separate the song from the others in its own way. Its a really simple, yet deep song with a beautiful chorus. Hearing Leona sing the line "There is nothing I would change..." is both soothing and powerful at the same time and because of that, it pushes this song up quite a bit. It's similar to Here I Am off of Spirit, in that the instrumental track is kept relatively simple, focusing more on Leona's voice. The only issue I have with the song is that I think it should end after 3 minutes, instead of going into that final segment, to keep the song contained and pure. Oh and yay for Leona being a co-writer of this song. 22. Let it Rain "It's in the air, you're everywhere" I'm assuming most people haven't heard this song because it's a bonus track off the Japanese version of Echo, but it's a pretty powerful, intense song with a nice beat. It's not exactly Leona's style, but she does channel different emotions through the song and tries to put her signature diva-touch on the final chorus and it's a really catchy song. It does lose some points for being too repetitive though. I haven't listened to this song that much, but I'd think that it may get tedious after repeated listenings, but I'd say this song is definitely worth at least one listen. =) |

Wow, both of those were amazing. I think Jordin has a song called Let It Rain too. :o

21. Misses Glass
"Cause see love has left me broken. Broken like glass." I don't know why, but I ended up liking this song a lot more than I thought I would at first. It's a rather MOR song, but it stands out from a lot of other tracks on Spirit. It's an upbeat song with not-as-upbeat lyrics, which makes it interesting. I'll admit that I'm not a fan of how the song opens and the random shouts throughout, but I really do like the chorus. I'm sure a lot of people would rank this song a lot lower, but just out of personal preference, it gets to be towards the middle. 20. Don't Let Me Down "Got a marathon to try again, I'm not even trying to win, I'm just glad I'm not alone" Okay, without me telling you, if you listened to this song, you could probably tell it was produced by Justin Timberlake just because it has that sound to it. This is a more mellow song, that gets vaulted up high because of its lyrics, which I love. It was hard to choose out one line to include as my choice lyric of the song, but I love it all from the first verse's "Do I take the road less traveled or the one I already know? No I'm not traveling alone; I got my heart in my hand and you can bet I'm holding it close." to the chorus' "If I need a hero, I got my mirror" and the entire second verse: "People! This is what you're living your life for. Fighter. That's your name. Trying to hide but it's obvious your a survivor... Believer. Don't let me travel it alone. That look in your eyes puts fire in the heart of the cold." While I do love the lyrics, and the flow of the verses, I think the chorus is a little weak, and that's why it's not higher up on this ranking. That, and the song becomes a little tedious towards the bridge and the final chorus, in my opinion. Give it a listen if you've got the time... and you can hear Justin Timberlake providing the background vocals. I heard this song playing at the mall before Christmas and I was surprised and rather excited <333 |

Omgosh how should I send it to you? PM me with details or something!
But the duet, 'Lost Then Found' on the CD has the 4 minute track, followed by a 3 minute gap of silence, then the hidden track, 'Stone Hearts & Hand Grenades' =O |

Lost then Found is amazing.
I see so many posts on twitter about that song. She should release it as a single. |

Ooh really? Where did you see those, Andyk? I wouldn't mind it being released as a single..
Two more for today... 19. Forgive Me "But I gotta take a chance tonight, so I'm doing me, myself and I" I don't really know the story behind this song... It was put on Spirit to give it more of an 'American' sound, then was released as a single exclusive to the UK. It was way different to her previous singles, 'A Moment Like This', 'Bleeding Love' and 'Better in Time', which I can appreciate, but Leona's true strength really is in power ballads. The music video is also much different than the videos to any of her other songs, being more playful and taking place in a fantasy. Even though it's not one of her strongest songs, in my opinion, I still find it really upbeat and catchy. Never has singing about cheating on someone been so fun, either <333 18. You Don't Care "Our love was amazing, now it's not worth saving" This track is exclusive to the North American version of Echo, and it's so much better than the other North America-only track, 'Fly Here Now'. It's got this laid-back, lazy beat that fits the emotion of the song perfectly. The chorus doesn't really sound like Leona's voice, but it's incredible. I don't know why, but the chorus of this song has always given me a whole Beatles-esque vibe, or some kinda song that you could hear being chanted by a crowd. Towards the end of the song, around 3:43 in this clip, you can really hear the passion in Leona's voice, which sets it apart from many of her other tracks. |

You don't care was recorded at Abbey road, its inspired by the Beatles, the song features several rifts from Beatles song.
The intro is from "Strawberry Fields", there is also a rift from "We are the Walrus". |

Ah thanks again, Andy.. It definitely had a Beatles sound.. I just couldn't pinpoint exactly why <3 And that's pretty cool that it was recorded at
Abbey Road too!
Both songs today are officially in the top half. 17. Naked "There's a heart-breaking chill running through my bones" Firstly, I always feel so 'D=' when I'm at youtube or google and searching up 'Naked Leona Lewis' trying to find this song, but it's always worth the search. This song is exclusive to the UK version of Echo and it's one of Leona's catchiest songs. The title is just a metaphor, but it helps change up the lyrics from her other songs that have the same essential message. For a song dealing with a breakup, it has a rather light opening (reminds me of a Colbie Caillat song =O) and an upbeat chorus, but if you listen closely, especially to the end of Leona's phrases, you can definitely hear real emotion being put into the song. It's an interesting combination that works well! 16. The Best You Never Had "And baby you miss my kiss, my lips, the love I had for you." This song is backed up by a simple R&B beat, leading into a wild, fun chorus that's pretty purely pop-sounding. What I like about this song, besides its incredibly catchy chorus and its bridge, is that it doesn't sound overproduced, and for me, that makes it easier for me to enjoy it on repeated listenings. And this is a song that can probably be appreciated repeatedly. I don't know how many other people would have ranked this song this high (or even above Naked in this update), but I love it, and the bridge and chorus will get stuck in your head quite easily <3 |

15. Outta My Head
"It's funny how easy you can mess me up. Now look how easy I got you outta my head" If I were to pick one song to be separate from all others, this would be the one because it's so different and totally not Leona's style. It's a high-tempo, electropop dance track, focusing more on the catchy hook and the beat, rather than Leona's vocals. This song doesn't have the most refined vocals or the greatest lyrics, but it ultimately ranks highly for how catchy and different it is. And if Leona performs this during her set on her tour, it'll re-energize the show if mixed in with her assortment of ballads. It's decent as a song standing alone, but it's made much more spectacular with backup dancers and stage effects. 14. Whatever it Takes "Whenever it is in my life, know that I will be on time" Fun fact, I originally had this song nearly 20 spots lower, but every time I was about to place it in an update and re-listened to it, the song got better and I felt bad that it was so low, so it's final ranking is at a respectable #14. It's another quick-paced song, but the instrumental tracking and backup vocals seem a lot more polished than in other songs, and it makes for a spectacular track. And it's these instrumentals and that background 'Da da da da da' that helps this song become really memorable. I usually just glazed over this song when listening to Spirit, but now I believe that it's one of the highlights, sounding incredibly fresh, and with a beat that would've translated well as a radio single. |
