Remove this ad Erik wouldn't have gotten 8th because he won immunity and it was his birthday. I would think Erik would actually end up getting 10th as the first to go after the merge with Jason immune. Then Ozzy gets blindsided. F8 Erik wins immunity so James goes. Then Kathy at 7..with the F6 playing out about the same. ETA: The only thing that might change is if there is conflict between the Faves on whether it should be Erik or Alexis/Nat at the first merge TC. From Rudy to Bob, Kim J. to Uzie there have been plenty of examples that an older man or woman can make it to the end and possibly win. Every game is different, there is a phase of the game which is difficult for each gender/age type cast. Again, is a thread necessary for something proven over and over again during 19 seasons?

Kathy probably would have made it to the merge in Micronesia if she hadn't quit, since Airai was dominating the challenges. And it does seem that once an older female makes the merge, she's in a position to go pretty far, so she has an advantage over younger men, who can coast through the tribal portion but have a harder time surviving the merge.
