i've only heard the hairy critic on one of the morning talk news shows say that he liked nine = others either said skip it or rent it if you really want to see it. What is rotten tomatoes saying about it?

For nominations not wins, it might come in second for the most noms behind Avatar. It will get noms for visual, editing, make-up, production design with a very good chance at make-p it has an outside shot for cinematography, screenplay, and picture.

I said it before, I loved District 9 but I'm sure it will only be up for tech/art etc..type awards..but it was a very cool'io film!

District 9 was my surprise favorite film of last year. (I haven't seen most of the Oscary ones though). Just got back from Avatar. It was good. It definitely needs to be seen in 3D so don't wait for DVD.

District 9 could sneak into Best Pic (cause of the 10 noms) and Screenplay.

I liked it but just barely. The main character irritated the fuck out of me, and the ending was like something out of Transformers. Thank god Megan Fox didn't show up.

I <3 the theaters I frequent (in and around Tampa) so I don't mind paying each & every time.

I just saw Invictus and that shit should be nominated for a Razzie for being so damn boring. Then again it doesn't deserve that honor since it was just meh and boring.

They're not until Feb 2nd, so exactly a month from now. It's strange because the Golden Globes, SAGs, PGAs, DGAs, and Critics Choice Awards are all done before nominations come out AND we've also got the BAFTA nominations beforehand. The whole month of February is basically going to be Oscar & BAFTA only, ending with the Oscar ceremony on March 7th (and as usual, the Indie Spirit Awards are the day before the Oscars... which is retarded since they were the first group to announce nominations way back in November).

Wow.....Avatar.

I thought it was cool the way James Cameron had ~~Ripley~~ Grace fight back against the ~~Paul Reiser~~ Giovanni Ribisi character. And who would have thought that the ~~Mother Alien~~ General would be so badass in that ~~RipleyMachine~~ Fighting Tractor at the end?

And what about that ~~ship from The Abyss~~ Tree of Souls? or the helicopter pilot, ~~Vasquez~~ Trudy?

What a shitfest.......Cameron just remade his own films and then put Blue People in it.....

Um, no. Ellen Ripley was a masculine action icon who used a pulse rifle to kill aliens. Grace was a pacifist who LOVED the supernatural, and even preferred it to human beings. Literately the only thing that they have in common is the fact that they're played by Sigourney Weaver. If all you got from the movie was a recycled Aliens flick then you're just fucking retarded, although that's already been proven by trying to compare two characters not even remotely similar.

I'm not going to see Avatar, but I hope it at least finishes #2 all-time box office just to piss off The Dark Knight fanboys.

In this very weak year, I could actually see Avatar winning the whole enchilada. Up In The Air seems to be losing steam, Precious is pretty much out of the running for Best Picture, and The Hurt Locker just isn't popular enough.

I agree completely. I saw it at 3:00 in the afternoon and yet still fell asleep. The only other time I'd ever fallen asleep in the theaters was at an 11:00pm showing.

oh come on, Avatar looked good but it doesn't deserve all the praise its getting, it's a mediocre story with a fancy frame. Avatar coming anywhere close to the Dark Knight levels of success would only amplify the Avatar fanboys who are way worse than the Dark Knight fanboys so be careful what you wish for, especially if you haven;t seen the movie yet.
