10. O Brother, Where Art Thou (2000) I first watched this movie because my mom happened to be watching it on VHS (back when VHS existed). I didn't really care to watch it in theaters, but it was one of those instances where I wasn't about to leave the room, so I might as well watch the movie. This movie mixed the right amount of comedy, music, and Greek Mythology into one coherent storyline, and I loved it. I thought George Clooney played the role of a pompous, yet good-hearted douchebag quite well. Pete had some good moments, and my mom and I always quote "We thought...you was...a toad" to one another. Delmar was hilariously empty-headed, and John Goodman's small role in the film gave a pretty damn good scene too. I was also quite surprised at how well George Clooney could sing. A very solid movie, all around. |

9. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) I've gotta say that the introduction of Jack Sparrow as the lovable, drunken pirate we all know has gotta be one of the greatest contributions the PotC series has given us this decade. Jack was hilariously incompetent at times, and yet masterful and skilled at others, and this dichotemy made for an interesting movie to watch as he constantly tried to scheme and outscheme the other characters. Orlando Bloom...meh. Keira Knightley was hot though. And I especially enjoyed the end battle with the ghostly, unkillable pirates, as Jack managed to pull one last fast one by snagging a piece of gold and making himself immortal in the process. Twas truly a marvelous sight to behold, especially at the end when everyone got away and lived happily ever after. No cliff hanger bullshit like DMC, that's for sure. |

8. Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004) Ben Stiller is a hilarious actor, because he can go over-the-top crazy so well, a lot like Will Ferrell without necessarily shouting at the top of his lungs. Seriously, Ben Stiller plays some of the absolutely bizarrest characters of all time, and White Goodman was amazing. Vince Vaughan is also a great comedic actor because he can make so many stone-faced jokes that absolutely kill. The cameos in this movie were great, like Chuck Norris being the third judge, or Lance Armstrong saying that he won the Tour de France seven times after losing a testicle, but it's okay for Peter to quit. The Average Joes were lovable doofuses, and seeing Jimmy James from News Radio brought back memories. And the best part is that the Average Joes won, they already sold the gym, and yet they won even bigger thanks to the bet that Peter made the night before, resulting in White becoming a fatty once again. Overall, a great movie, very quotable, and c'mon, who doesn't love the "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball" scene? That's classic. |

7. Crash (2005) I've only recently heard that people hate this movie, and I really can't see why. Yes, it does take certain stereotypes a little bit too far, but that's the whole point of the movie, to look beyond the stereotypes. The actors have conversation reminiscent of a Quentin Tarantino movie, and yet you still feel like this movie is real, as all these people are really having their lives collide with one another, from the car thieves to Sandra Bullock to the locksmith to the store owner to his daughter, back to the car thieves to the black couple to the cop...it's just so amazing how it's possible for peoples' lives to interlace that way. And there were two scenes that just touched me so deeply, where the Middle Eastern man shoots a blank at the little girl, and where the cop rescues the woman he molested the day before. Both of those were just so emotional that I almost cried during them. |

Kitty Pryde1 wrote: omg I just saw this! WALL-E is really an excellent movie and I just watched it yesterday again for the 2nd time (they were airing it on Disney channel and I really wanted to watch). The ending was so sad until WALL-E remembered EVA and everyone. Plus I liked that they actually spent time developing WALL-E and EVA as characters in the beginning instead of rushing into the plot. This was definitely a great movie and I think it's my favorite 2008 movie! (I haven't seen Up though, which I heard was even better!) |

6. Hot Fuzz (2007) At first glance, this movie's title should seem right up my alley, but alas, it isn't a furry porno (yet). Still, I have to love Simon Pegg and I think he is one of the best actors to really start a career in this decade, and Nick Frost isn't that bad either. I love the fact that they're openly parodying cops movies a la the Scream triology and slasher films, and it just has this twisted sense of humor as the movie has no shame about gratuitous violence (a man has a massive, stone spike impale his head, for example). The ending shoot-out is one of the greatest moments in movie history, not necessarily because it's any better than other movies, but because of the people involved, just two cops against about a dozen or so hate-filled old people who actually do a pretty good job defending themselves. Overall, the movie is amazing and the twist is even better, and I would definitely recommend it, even if it didn't make my top five. |

5. Tropic Thunder (2008) I personally find it amazing that Robert Downey Jr., a white man, played a black man in a movie, and rather than being hated for doing so, he was nominated for an Academy Award for the performance. Honestly, how surprising is it that Tropic Thunder can claim to have given an Academy Award nominee performance? This movie was hilarious, and my family constantly quotes it (and Zoolander) to one another, once again proving just how amazing of a comedic actor Ben Stiller is. I love the way it opens up, with fake previews for each of the characters' movies (so soft drinks) and it just continues to be hilarious from there, with over-the-top performances from the pyrotechnics guy, the fake war hero, Tom Cruise, and the actors themselves. There was not a second in this movie that I didn't enjoy, and there were times that I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe, so that's enough to get Tropic Thunder a top five spot. |

4. Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) This movie gave us one of the most iconic movie images of the decade, with Uma Thurman in her yellow track suit, just waiting for a fight. I love action movies, and I loved this much more than volume two because the two major fights were both handled so well, and you really felt like something was at stake. Uma vs. Vivica, just randomly showing up and beating the shit out of her and ruining her house was classic, especially since they had this whole deal about fighting to the death, but Vivica tries to pull a fast one, and winds up getting knifed. And then of course you have the O-Ren fight, with poor Gogo's unfortunate headwound, a fuckton of Japanese people getting slaughtered, and finally, Lucy Liu getting the top of her head chopped off. This whole movie was amazingly well-paced and so bloody, yet it never felt like overkill, and for that, it takes the number four spot on my countdown. |

Great recent updates. Dodgeball and Tropic Thunder. I thought for sure I would hate both these movies but they were just hysterical.
"If you can dodge a ball, you can dodge a wrench. " I loved that line. And in Tropic Thunder, I thought it was a bit cheesy to begin with but about 30 minutes in I just started laughing and never really stopped. I loved Tom Cruise but more than that I LOVED Jack Black. When he wanted those drugs, OMG, hysterical. Really this movie is just laugh out loud funny in so many parts. Oh and Crash was perfect in EVERY way. One of the best movies for me, all time. |
