But as a small northwestern school that can play with the big boys, not a bad analogy.

Memy, the stadium definitely was the deciding factor in the BCS debate for the Cotton. That stadium was decrepit. It looked awful. The weather would
have been a minimal issue (I can't remember the last time it snowed for a Cotton Bowl game). The reason why the Fiesta got the BCS is cloudy, especially
after it was revealed in the Phoenix newspapers a few weeks ago that the bowl reps were involved in some Salt Like Olympic Games-type scandal in trying to get
the BCS back in the '90s.
Since the BCS contract isn't due up until 2012, even with the new stadium, unless the commissioners decide to make the BCS Championship Game a revolving game amongst the bowls (assuming the Cotton is part of the rotation with the other four), I wouldn't expect anything to change. I seem to remember the Cotton lobbying for the fifth bowl game back when it was decided to make a separate Championship Game, but something happened that it never materialized. I'm assuming it was the Rose Bowl's insistence on the Pac-10/Big 10 matchup every year that prevented a new locale coming in. Everyone on the west coast knows that they were awfully pissed at having to take Texas when USC was to play the title game in Miami back in '04, leaving Cal on the outside looking in. A fifth location would have either forced the Rose Bowl to potentially host a national championship game without a Pac-10 or Big 10 opponent, or it would have made the fifth bowl the de facto location for the national championship game every year (unfair to the other bowls). Either way, the Cotton Bowl won't be joining the BCS, and the Fiesta won't be departing it, without the six commissioners deciding to change it up, and we know how much they're averse to change. |

Sun Bowl stadium only holds about 53,300 people, and the citizens would be fiercely against raising their $15 ticket prices. Heck, this year was the first year they sold out the bowl in about 20 years. |

Emma babe....hiya.
Memy, I remember reading about Boston College and Doug Flutie playing in the Cotton Bowl in sub freezing rain. I like the Pete Best reference although George Best would have been cooler to use. |
