The final act when they are stuck on the raft is insanely EPIC, although almost all of the episode is. Only 44th? I'm sorry. As I said, I hate the part where Bart and Milhouse are "sugar-drunk" so I couldn't rank the episode higher. 42 - Das Bus Lisa, Bart, Milhouse, Ralph, Nelson and other kids from Springfield are being driven to a model UN conference. Otto drives the bus off a bridge because of Milhouse. When the bus is nearly full of water, the kids manage to escape and swim to an island. Once there, the kids find no food, causing Bart to swim back to the sunken bus to get the cooler full of food. Lisa advises everyone to not eat much, as it may be the only food they could have for some time. However, the cooler is found empty the next morning, with the food wrappings discarded around Milhouse. He claims a monster ate it. After a trial that proves Milhouse to be innocent, the other kids become angry at the verdict, chasing Bart, Lisa and Milhouse, persuasively to kill them. The three hide in a cave, but are chased out by a boar, which is soon found out to be the "monster". The kids kill the boar and eat it. A narration assures that Moe saves the kids. Meanwhile, Homer starts his own internet company, but it is eventually destroyed by Bill Gates. Lisa standing for France in the model UN conference <3 I was happy when I watched this episode for the first time because Lord of the Flies is one my favourite book. Unlike other extended parodies which fell flat if you are unfamiliar with the material being parodied, this one works even if you are not familiar with Lord of the Flies. The model UN Club meeting is the best scene of the episode and I love the satire of the real UN. This gag is without a doubt the best gag from the episode : "Order, order! Do you kids wanna be like the real U.N, or do you just wanna squabble and waste time?" Historical reference <3 Everything that happens on the island is not that funny but as a fan of Lord of the Flies, I couldn't help but rank this episode in the Top 50. For once, the subplot doesn't hurt the episode. Homer creating his own internet company is kind of funny and Bill Gates' appearance was ok. Some people think the ending is stupid. They probably didn't read Lord of the Flies because the novel's ending is also a Deus Ex Machina. Great Quotes : Bart: Wow, cool, God is so in your face! Homer: Yeah, he's my favorite fictional character. Skinner: OK, Libya.. exports! Bart: Yes, sir, you American pig! Skinner: chuckles Nice touch. Bart: Uh, ahem, let's see...shuffles through his papers, which are blank. The exports of Libya are numerous in amount. One thing they export is corn, or as the Indians call it, "mase". Another famous Indian was "Crazy Horse". In conclusion, Libya is a land of contrast. Thank you. (This one always make me laugh because "Whatever Country is a land of contrast" was always more or less my conclusion when I had report to do in Geography class in high school). Wiggum: Remember, Ralphie, if your nose starts bleeding it means you're picking it too much... or not enough. Skinner : Remember, Otto. We're trusting you with our greatest natural resource... the school bus. Milhouse : I can't go on, you two go ahead... and carry me with you! Clue for the next entry : Apu-centric

Mayor Quimby is forced to raise taxes so they can pay for an (useless) bear patrol. When the Springfield citizens are outraged, Quimby blames illegal immigrants and creates Proposition 24, which will deport the immigrants. The Simpson family discover Apu is an illegal immigrant. Apu first obtains a false United States citizenship thanks to Fat Tony and he starts acting American. He quickly realizes he has disgraced his family by turning his back on his indian heritage. Lisa discovers that Apu will not have to leave if he can pass a citizenship test. Homer decides to help Apu by becoming his tutor. Apu then goes to take the test, and because he originally knew a lot about the history of the United States, he passes the test and becomes a citizen of the US. At a congratulatory party, Homer tells his guests how terrible it would be if immigrants were deported, explaining they make the US thrive. He inspires them to vote no on Proposition 24, but it still passes, with 95% of the population voting yes. In the end the only illegal immigrant who has to leave is Groundskeeper Willie. I don't really care about Apu. Sometimes I find him funny, other times he's annoying. I wasn't really ecstatic when I learnt this episode was going to be about him so I was pleasantly surprised in the end. Much Apu About Nothing is a wonderful piece of political satire. The way to get to the main plot is kind of odd but I liked it (especially because it leads to one of my favorite conversation between Lisa and Homer, see the end of the post). The episode also makes its point without being too preachy. It displays both sides of a highly controversial issue with some of the usual Simpson wit. Good Quotes : Homer: Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm. Lisa: That's spacious reasoning, Dad. Homer: Thank you, dear. Lisa: By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away. Homer: Oh, how does it work? Lisa: It doesn't work. Homer: Uh-huh. Lisa: It's just a stupid rock. Homer: Uh-huh. Lisa: But I don't see any tigers around, do you? Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock. Lisa refuses at first, then takes the exchange Quimby: Are those morons getting dumber or just louder? Assistant: checks his clipboard Dumber, sir. Lisa: I don't see how you can support Proposition 24, Dad. Homer: Open your eyes, Lisa! Our schools are so jam-packed with immigrants, people like Bart have lost the will to learn! Bart: There's no denying it, Sis. Lisa: All right! Now you have all the Simpsons behind you. Apu: That's nice, although three of you are below voting age. Homer: And I'm not registered. Proctor: All right, here's your last question. What was the cause of the Civil War? Apu: Actually, there were numerous causes. Aside from the obvious schism between the abolitionists and the anti-abolitionists, there were economic factors, both domestic and inter-- Proctor: Wait, wait... just say slavery. Apu: Today, I am no longer an Indian living in America. I am an Indian-American. Lisa: You know, in a way, all Americans are immigrants. Except, of course Native Americans. Homer: Yeah, Native Americans like us. Lisa: No, I mean American Indians. Apu: Like me. Clue for the next entry : The beginning of a love story between two characters.

They end up kissing in Martin's pink playhouse in an act witnessed by Bart. Bart plans to reveal what he witnessed, but Seymour and Edna fear that they would be fired if anyone found out and they swear him to secrecy. They hire him as their gofer so they can secretly exchange messages.Eventually, Bart grows frustrated about his school and social life being interrupted to help them advance their relationship, putting him in embarrassing situations. One afternoon at school, Bart finally snaps out and gathers the entire school in front of a janitor's closet and he opens the door to reveal that Seymour and Edna are making out. Chalmers gives Seymour an ultimatum - end the relationship or have both of them face dismissal. Seymour decides that love is stronger than his professional goals, so Chalmers fires him and Edna, expecting them to leave the school at the end of the day. Bart learns that the couple have lost their jobs and shows remorse for them. He encourages the former principal to stand up for himself. Seymour and Edna lock down the school, call the media and make their demands: They want their jobs back and the townspeople to not interfere with their relationship Seymour insists nothing happened between him and Edna and that he is a virgin, believed by everyone on the basis of being such an embarrassing thing for someone his age to admit. Chalmers agrees to reinstate Seymour and Edna. The couple decide to continue their relationship more privately than ever by convincing Bart that they have broken up. Skinner is one of my favorite characters, along with Lisa and Mr. Burns, and I always liked Edna. This episode finally puts an end to a running-gag from previous seasons : the mutual attirance between Seymour and Edna. Considering that Grade School Confidential uses the Simpson family very litte, with the exception of Bart, the episode is a good example of a case where writers were able to rely on minor characters. I always love this kind of episode when they are well-executed, and that's the case here. There are a lot of good moments : Homer looking for a remote, Kent Brockman being had, Mrs. Skinner and Bart, Bart at the cinema... The weakest part of the episode is the beginning with Martin's birthday. Martin is an annoying character and basically every gag fells flat except the short conversation between Bart and Edna : Krabappel: Hi, Bart. Bart: he drops his glass Uh, Mrs. K! Hey, it's Saturday; you're powers are useless against me. Krabappel: Relax. I'm just here to have fun like everybody else, so don't think of me as your teacher. Bart: Okay ... so ... Krabappel: Mmm-hmm. Krabappel sips some punch, and she and Bart laugh awkwardly Bart: Excuse me. * Walks off about twenty yards, and just stands there* Also, the ending of the episode is quite clever since it seems like things are going to revert to normal, but then they actually appeared to be the same. Overall, it's a solid episode. Definitely not the best, but still good nontheless. Great Quotes: Martin: raises hand Mrs. Krabappel, I also have an announcement to make. Krabappel: Can't it wait until I retire? Skinner: More tea, Edna? Krabappel: What kind of little boy has a tea set? Skinner: pours tea I think we both know the answer to that ... a lucky boy. Skinner: Now, Bart, son. I don't know what you think you saw ... but, uh ... let me assure you... Krabappel: What Seymour's, oh, what Principal Skinner means to say, Bart, is that sometimes a little boy's imagination can run away with him. Bart: That's the best you can do? You could have at least said that you were giving her CPR or rehearsing a play. Skinner: Is it too late to say that? Mrs. Skinner: I collect pictures of cakes that I clip out of the magazines. It all started in 1941 when "Good Housekeeping" featured a photo of a lovely cake.* opens album* Bart: You wouldn't happen to have any real cakes around here, would you? Mrs. Skinner: Oh, my, no. I don't care for cake, too sweet. Now, this is called a Lady Baltimore cake. At my age, I don't have much saliva left, so you'll have to lick my thumb before I can turn the page. gives Bart the thumbs-up Bart: Oh, can't I just turn the page for you? reaches for the page Mrs. Skinner: slaps Bart's hand away No! Homer: Wait a minute. Bart's teacher is named Krabappel? I've been calling her Crandall. Why didn't someone tell me? Oh, I've been making an idiot out of myself! Krabappel: Then let us take our case directly to the townspeople. Chalmers: Oh, yeah, that'll be -real- productive. Who do you want to talk to first? The, the guy with a bumblebee suit, or the one with a bone through his hair? Skinner: We can't continue on like this, trying to build a private relationship in public, the whole town watching our every move with a fine-toothed comb. Krabappel: Mmm-hmm. I'm used to humiliation but not in front of a crowd that size. Bart: Aw, but you seemed like such a good couple. Krabappel: Bart. When you get a little older you're going to learn that sometimes romances don't turn out exactly the way you'd like them to. Bart: sighs and trudges out of the building Skinner: That's why I love elementary school, Edna. The children believe anything you tell them. Clue for next entry : An episode where the hitchhiker in Texas Chainsaw Massacre makes an appearance.

Bart reluctantly goes to the DMV with his aunts, and Lisa goes to the nuclear power plant with Homer. Lisa's look always makes me At the DMV, Bart makes himself a fake driver's license, which he uses to hire a rental car. He decides to leave with Milhouse, Martin and Nelson. The boys tell their parents they are going to attend the National Grammar Rodeo in Canada, but secretly take the rented car for a road trip to the World's Fair in Knoxville. However, in Knoxville, they find out that the fair was held fourteen years earlier. The boys' car soon gets destroyed, and they are stranded without any money or transportation. Bart places a collect call to Lisa, who has spent the entire spring break with Homer at work, to ask her for advice. Lisa obtains Homer's promise that he will not get upset and she reveals Bart's predicament. To get Bart home, Homer orders equipment for the power plant and ships it via courier from Knoxville, with the boys stowed away inside the crate and Bart as the courier. I found this episode boring the first time I saw it but I realized after a re-watch that it was a very good episode. It starts out slowly and then improves at the end so this episode definitely deserves a spot on the list. I usually tend to complain about subplot but it's not the case here because this episode has a subplot that made sense, a plot that went somewhere, and a way to tie them both together. There are no really hilarious lines but there is an air of humor over the whole episode. I also love the ending, when Bart is lying about the Grammar Rodeo. The chain of faces is priceless : Great Quotes : Marge : Lisa, you'll have a fine time at the plant with dad. You've been interested in nuclear power for years. Lisa : I signed numerous petitions to shut down that plant. Marge : Well, there you go. Patty : Some days we don't let the line move at all. Selma: We call those weekdays. Homer: This is a map of nuclear sites around the country. As a safety inspector, I'm responsible for changing most of these light bulbs. Lisa: Why are there so many burnt-out ones? Homer: 'Cause they won't hire me an assistant. Milhouse: at home I have been selected to represent the school at the national grammar rodeo at the Sheraton Hotel in Canada. Martin: at home I've been selected to represent the school at the national grammar rodeo at the Sheraton Hotel in Canada. Nelson: leaving his house I'm goin' away for a week. See ya! Homer: Hello, I'd like to speak with a Mr. Snotball, first name Ura. Moe: Ura Snotball? Homer: What? How dare you? If I find out who this is, I'll staple a flag to your butt and mail you to Iran. Before he leaves, Burns cuts the cable television wire and removes the beer. Groundskeeper Willie discovers that Bart has the power to read thoughts. The absence of his two favorite things sends Homer insane and Moe's ghost tells Homer he must kill his family. Homer then begins chasing the family with an axe and Bart uses his powers to call Willie, who runs to the family's rescue, dropping his pocket television in the snow. Homer kills him by stabbing him in the back with the axe. Homer chases his family outside into the snow and just as he is about to kill them, Lisa finds the portable television that Willie dropped and shows it to him. With access to television again, Homer's insanity gradually fades. The family sits in the snow to watch with him and eventually freeze. Time And Punishment Homer tries to fix a broken toaster and accidentally turns it into a time machine. In transports him back to prehistoric times. He knows he has to be careful because if he changes anything in the prehistoric time, it could changes the future. Of course, Homer kills an insect. He returns to the present and finds a dystopia where Ned Flanders rules the world. Homer travels back in time to try to set things right. He makes several attempts but it always leads to disastrous consequences. After another try, Homer is finally pleased with the results in the present; Bart and Lisa are polite and well-behaved, the family is extremely wealthy and Patty and Selma are dead. However, he is horrified to find that donuts do not exist in this universe. As Homer flees back to the past in terror, however, it is shown donuts frequently rain from the sky. Homer eventually arrives in a reality that appears normal. However, he finds that humans eat with chameleon-tongues, but decides it is close enough. And Willie is randomly killed by Maggie Nightmare Cafeteria There are two problems at school : Detention hall is becoming overcrowded and the Lunchlady is being forced to serve horrible meat in the cafetaria. Skinner finds a common solution to both problems : to eat misbehaving children. Jimbo and Uter become the first victims of this "solution". Bart and Lisa figure out what the teachers are doing, but one by one, the kids are "sent to detention" where they are caged and butchered. Eventually Bart, Lisa and Milhouse are the only students left and they decide to escape. Skinner and the other teachers corner them on a ledge above a giant operating blender. Willie tries to help the students, but is killed with an axe in the back by Skinner. Milhouse, Bart, and Lisa fall in the operating blender. Bart wakes up to find it was all a terrible dream. Marge assures him that he has nothing to be afraid of except for a mysterious green fog that turns people inside out. The fog seeps through the window and the Simpsons and Willie are turned inside out. They perform a bloody song and dance number as the credits roll. I have to spoil this ranking : Treehouse of Horror V is the only Halloween Episode ranked. The reason is pretty simple : usually, there's always a part of the Halloween Special I hate. The fifth Treehouse of Horror is the only one where I like equally all three segments. Shining's parody is great, Time and Punishment is a classic and Nightmare Cafeteria was ok. I also love the running-gag of Groundskeeper Willie being murdered and The Shinning features one of my favorite scene : Homer going crazy. The ending of the episode is disgusting but I appreciate it now that I know why this episode was so gruesome. Basically, the United States Congress apparently complain about the amout of violence in the show (WTF??) and they tried to censor it. David Mirkin decided to put as much blood and guts into the episode. He was in fact angry about the USC's attempt. Trivia : Homer doesn't appear at all in the third segment. Good Quotes : Burns: This house has quite a long and colorful history. It was build on an ancient Indian burial ground and was the setting of satanic rituals, witch-burnings, and five John Denver Christmas specials. Willy: Boy...you read my thoughts! You've got the Shinning. Bart: You mean "Shining". Willy: Shh! You want to get sued? Burns: Yes, by cutting off cable TV and the beer supply, I can ensure an honest winter's work out of those low-lives. Smithers: Sir, did you ever stop to think that maybe it was doing this that caused the previous caretakers to go insane and murder their families? Burns: Hmm...perhaps. Tell you what: we come back and everyone's slaughtered, I owe you a Coke. Kid: pressed against glass Oxygen running out... Skinner: Yes, you should have thought of that before you made that paper airplane! Lisa: Mom! Mom! You've gotta help: they're cooking kids in the school cafeteria! Marge: Listen, kids: you're eight and ten years old now. I can't be fighting all your battles for you. Bart: But Mom... Marge: No buts! You march right back to that school, look them straight in the eye, and say "Don't eat me"! Skinner: I'm going to enjoy devouring you, Bart Simpson. Yes...I believe I'll start, as you've so often suggested, by eating your shorts. Clue for the next entry : Springfield vs Shelbyville

Correct. 37 - Lemon of Troy Marge lectures Bart on the importance of patriotism and pride of his town. So Bart realizes how wonderful it is living in Springfield. Grampa explains that the rivalry between the two towns began when Jebediah Springfield and Manhattan Shelbyville discovered their differences regarding the sexuality (Springfield wanted to favorize chastity while Shelbyville advocated incestuous mariage between cousins. EW) The next day, Springfield's lemon tree is stolen by children from Shelbyville. Bart goes undercover and infiltrates the children of Shelbyville by disguising himself. However, he is unable to obtain any information. Eventually, the Springfield children track down the tree to an impound lot. In Springfield, Homer leads the adults to find the children. When the two groups meet, the children convince the adults to help recover the tree. Homer demands the return of the tree, while the owner of the impound lot refuses. Using a plan similar to the Trojan Horse, Bart steers Ned's RV to the outside of the hospital. The RV is taken to the impound lot after it is found parked outside the hospital. When night falls, Homer and his group get out of the RV and tie the tree to the top. They are caught in the middle of this act but manage to escape. The tree is returned to Springfield. The children of Springfield celebrate with lemonade, while those in Shelbyville are forced to drink turnip juice. Springfield 1 - Shelbyville 0. I know a lot of people love this episode. I'm not saying it's not a good episode (otherwise it wouldn't be here) but there are a lot of other episodes which are superiors IMO. But yay, it's a very good episode with lots of great gags. I especially love the kid stuff : the big standoff across the town line, the war between Bart's crew and this other kid's crew...The Martin & Nelson duo is one of the funniest pair I ever saw, especially because Nelson is working with Martin, not beating the shit out of him. The funniest thing in the episode is the reverse population of Shelbyville (Joe, female Willie, the asian owner of the Kwik-E-Mart...) I would have love the episode much more if we had seen more of this angle. But it's still a very good episode, and the references to Trojan War are <3 because Homer's Iliad rocks (despite being one of the oldest thing written in the world). And I don't know if someone ever think about it, but when Homer says his plan to recover the lemon tree is something that "no one in history has ever done anything this clever", he's actually right since the Trojan Horse story is probably not true. (And if it is, then Troy deserved to lose the war for being the stupidest city in History). Good Quotes: Woman from the future : Like Stonehenge, this site will forever be a mystery. Who was Bart ? And how did he manage to write his name in solid cement ? Man from the future : He must have been much smarter than his sister Lisa, about whom we know nothing. Marge: Where are you going, Bart? Bart: Mom, you won't believe this, but something you said the other day really got through to me. Marge: happy Mmm! Bart: And now, I am going to teach some kids a lesson. slams door Marge: I choose to take that literally. Bart: OK, here's how it goes: I'm the leader, Milhouse is my loyal sidekick, Nelson's the tough guy, Martin's the smart guy, and Todd's the quiet religious guy who ends up going crazy. Marge: It's almost lunch time. Do you know where your brother is tutoring? Lisa: Pfft. Tutoring? The only thing Bart's teaching is guerilla combat in Shelbyville. Marge: Well, do you have a number where we can reach him? Lisa: No, Mom, Bart and some kids ran off to wage war on Shelbyville! Marge: gasps Homer! Come quick! Bart's quit his tutoring job and joined a violence gang! Shelby: You're dead... Bart: Uh...hey look! Someone's attractive cousin! the other kids turn to stare Milhouse: Is this the untimely end of Milhouse? Milhouse2: But Milhouse is my name! Milhouse: But I thought I was the only one! Milhouse2: A pain I know all too well. Milhouse: So this is what it feels like...when doves cry. Homer :"Hee hee hee, no one in history has ever done anything this clever" Bart: Eat my shorts, Shelbyville! Bart and Homer: Eat my shorts! Ned: Yes, eat all of our shirts. I did not remember it when I wrote the entry so I assumed Shelbyville was his surname because of Jebediah Springfield.
