This movie picks up where the second movie in the series (Aliens) left off. Alien 3 returns to the roots of the Alien series and moves away from the action packed pace of the second film. This movie is very slow and suspenseful, with more psychological scares than action sequences. It's a good movie, but it is a bit dull and boring in parts. Probably my least favorite of all the Alien movies. Props to Sigourney Weaver for pulling off the bald look.

Rewatching the newest Star Wars trilogy this year, I definitely feel like Attack of the Clones is the weakest of the three. I always thought it was the Phantom Menace, but no. Yeah, there's a cool chase scene through the skies of Coruscant. And yeah, this movie starts to show the cracks in Anakin Skywalker's armor, and how he starts to wander down the path of the dark side. But overall it's a very boring movie. The whole cloning thing is confusing and dull, as is the assassination subplot. The Gladiator-esque scene at the end didn't seem fitting in the Star Wars universe. Overall, not a great movie. But it gets by because it's Star Wars. :)

I must have been feeling nostalgic this year, because I watched yet another movie that falls into the "loved it as a kid but am now indifferent as an adult" category. Needful Things is one of my favorite Stephen King books, and the movie adaptation only does just an ok job of bringing it to life. This movie tells the tale of Leland Gaunt, a store owner who moves into the small Maine town of Castle Rock. His store contains whatever it is that you desire the most, except you can't pay for it in money. If you want your needful thing, you have to do a dirty deed to get it, like a prank on a neighbor for example.
My main complaint is that this movie moves far too quickly. Leland Gaunt's process of tearing the town apart and turning everyone against each other should be a slow process and not something that just happens overnight. The other part I don't like is when the boy throws apples at Wilma Jerzcyk's house. They break the windows and shatter everything inside the house, like the microwave and the television set. Really? An apple thrown from 50 feet away can crash through a window and break through a microwave door? Really? I like this movie, I just wasn't as into it as I used to be in the past.

I had heard that this movie sucked before I saw it. But I like to give things a chance before I condemn them, so I went into it with an open mind. It was OK. It didn't suck, but it was nothing special either. It's your basic zombie movie, this one set from the perspective of a handheld video camera, kind of like Cloverfield but cheesier. It's not particularly scary, and the action scenes are just all right. And I didn't like the ending. The thing I enjoyed the most about this movie was the Amish dude that the main characters encounter along the way. He kicks some major ass.

The only reason I watched Ghoulies is because I totally thought it was something else. Not that I was dissappointed with what was to come! I watched this movie very early in the year, so a lot of the plot details are very fuzzy. I just remember this movie involving some old house, a party, little creatures, and some satanic looking guy in a cape. It was a lot of fun though! If I could remember more, I might have ranked it higher.
