But Conan stands to rake in a lot of dough either way, so I'm not going to shed too many tears for a guy making $80 million over the next four years. Either way it's another clusterfuck at NBC. No surprise there.

If NBC has to choose between Leno and Conan, they will choose Leno.

Good for Conan!
I am not a huge fan of his, although he's had some good moments, but I really admire him for taking that stand. Letterman should have had the Tonight Show. Leno has always bored me silly. |

I hope that Conan takes his money, starts a production company and produces mega hits for ABC & CBS

Godfuckingdamn NBC.
Late Night with Conan O'Brien started when I was 5 years old. My parents used to let me stay up and watch it on Friday nights when I was a youngin'. I don't know a world in which Conan is not on television nightly. |

I really wish that someone smart would organize a boycott of The new Tonight Show. I just feel bad for Jimmy because his and Conan's humor went together a
lot better than Jay's and his will.

I absolutely love how he says these changes will destroy the essence and legacy of The Tonight Show - that he won't have anything to do with any of it, and how he doesn't want to negatively impact Fallon either Which is an indirect but oh-so-pointed dig at Jay, since Jay apparently has zero reservations in doing any of it

There is a Facebook page supporting Conan and calling for a Jay Leno/NBC boycott. It currently has 139 members.
I am so glad Conan turned down the move.

I am most impressed with Conan's letter. Really freakin' impressed. He showed class---something Leno hasn't done for a second since this happened.
I think Conan should probably leave late night, but move on to create a production company for shows for other networks.

I really don't want to see the Tonight Show go down, just Leno, and the current big wigs at NBC.
I am old enough to remember Carson, and I understand the "love" that both Conan and Letterman have for that "institution." Letterman would have been perfect back in the transition day. Now? Who knows? Maybe they will need a completely new face for the show? |

I've been boycotting Leno for years without knowing it.

I don't find Conan or Leno funny, but I applaud Conan for standing up for the traditions of the Tonight Show/Late Show being at certain times. Even though
neither has been funny since Johnny Carson/David Letterman left, butchering the traditions for those that actually watch them isn't right.

I watch Kimmel as he's got the funniest skits and opening, IMO

Leno must have a massive fucking ego to take the job after O'Brien's statement, which in effect says Leno doesn't care about anything other than
himself (which is true).

Like Dave said, Leno only cares about being on television to tell a few jokes at 11:30 and playing with his toy cars.

Conan O'Brien says no 'Tonight Show' at 12:05
After seven months, The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien' is over. BY AHMAD T. CHILDRESS JAN 12, 2010 After NBC's surprising move to move The Jay Leno Show (Jay Leno moves to 11:35) from its 10 pm timeslot to 11:35 pm, it appears that negotiations with Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien have taken a turn for the worse. The move gave Jay Leno a thirty minute show that cut in to the first half hour of O'Brien's Tonight Show. Conan had several options, take the money and make jokes about parent company GE, much like David Letterman did or leave the show altogether, he chose the latter. In 2007 we talked to Conan well before his start on The Tonight Show (Conan O'Brien interview) and asked him if there was any drama with the turnover and he responded, "There's still plenty of time." Since we may not see Conan for a while, enjoy our Top Ten Conan O'Brien Moments article and remember the some of the best moments from Late Night with Conan O'Brien. |

Conan's letter is really, really classy. Some may say he shouldn't have been so public but it's not like NBC was keeping their position a secret.
Conan may leave NBC but he's going to be leaving with the respect.
