Yes, I meant for New Year's and in general anywhere important or popular not just shows. I'm sure Mitch does gigs at Gus' Bar and Grill in NS.

Now that Christmas is over and Christmas songs have vanished from the chart, a lot of songs that were on there before have re-entered the chart (along with a
few new entries). And of those that are debuting or have re-entered this week's Mediabase
chart, the one in the highest position is Theo's "Wait For You" back in at #13, which is higher than it was before Christmas.

The new Nielsen BDS chart is out, and Theo's "Wait For You" is
also now in the highest position it has been on there as well, moving from #22 last week to #16 this week. A couple of stations that weren't playing it
before Christmas seem to be playing it now, so maybe the success of "Do You Hear What I Hear" helped it out some.

Update: TWN has reverted back to the stale local forecast music. Dopes.
Also, coming out of left field a little bit here, recalling the Degrassi discussion in which I was totally lost, I just came across another great Canadian show that I watched when I was younger. Actually had no idea it was Canadian until just now, but anybody remember Daring and Grace? Which was on the air, holy fuck, like 10-11 years ago.

I would like to use this thread to throw in some love for the Nickelodeon classic "You Can't Do That on Television."

I'm starting to feel like Dwiebe...
But TWN has launched a contest to pick the next local forecast track! Seriously. There are 5 tracks we get to choose from: 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vckj-Razt7Q 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrAWlyAdoOE 3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTwDn_otII4 4) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixnwVt42Qjs 5) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9TEEL3ENvE First impressions of each (since this is probably the only Canadian music contest around for the forseeable future 1) Strings? Really? Alright. Not a bad track, but I'm a bit iffy on how well it suits the LF. It would probably get old fast. 2) What a clumsy sounding tune. Kind of has a "Mr. Rogers" feel to it though with the piano. 3) The Christmas local forecast music, minus the bells in the background. Probably has an advantage over the others since people are likely kind of used to it and had sub-consciously started the mental switch from the old crap. Definitely has a nice hook. 4) This is my favorite. Love the up-tempo beat. The lone comment on Youtube has a valid point though that it would make sense as highway conditions music. 5) Similar to #2 in that it's very jazz. Far better though. Very lounge/elevator type music. Probably the best suited tune for the LF. Rank: 4 5 3 1 2 Voting begins on January 18th. |

I knew you were going to post about the local songs.
I didn't know voting started on Jan 18. I kept on going to the website and couldn't find a link to vote and found it weird cause they were playing all the songs and I was like WTF. I only ever caught song 1 and 4 playing on t.v. Kinda weird. After listening to the tracks carefully, here is my review: 1) Way to sharp sounding. That music at like 7am is torture. Will not win. 2) No. Just no. NO. 3) I love this jingle, partly cause it's been played before but it sounds like old school TWN music. It's kinda Christmassy so I don't know if that will get old by July. 4) I love this tune like SG. It sounds Shania Twain'ish for some reason. I like it but I don't know if the general public will. 5) LOVE this jingle too. Sounds a bit old skool TWN as well and no Christmassy sound. Possible winner. My rank: 5 4 3 1 2 Similar ranks, SG. I think 5 or 3 is going to win. I don't mind any of 3,4, or 5 winning. I'm voting for 5 or 4, I'll decide then. |

MikiBoi wrote: I was in bed last night and flicked on TWN to music I hadn't heard before. I sat up and was like "Local Song #2...WTF?" And yeah, there's like no PR about the contest anywhere besides Youtube. Dwiebe should get on that. Shania Twain is a good description for #4. I agree about which choices are acceptable winners. 1 & 2 need to go back in the box. |

Hmm...did I hear my name?? Sensed that you mentioned me and came to look?
Nah, I came to bring you news. Theo has been nominated for a CRMA (Canadian Radio Music Awards) in the "Mainstream AC" category for "Sing". He's up against some stiff competition though with Karl Wolf and Melanie Fiona - both songs were really popular. There are also two other artists/songs I'm not familiar with. (Yeah, yeah...keeping in category, I will mention Carly Rae Jepsen has been nominated for Song of the Year.) |

What say ye about Billy's new song/video?
A bit eh imho. Sounds like something that might have been popular 15-20 years ago or something. |

In related CI1 news, LLF are releasing a new album in the near future. The upcoming first single 'Exit' is pretty catchy and they've definitely
developed something of a signature sound. Billy should take some lessons from Ryan and the boys.

If so yay. It should win, who are the other noms? Also sorry to Theo but "Sing" is a shit song, it shouldn't be nommed for fuck all anything. |

I saw a piece on Chris Labelle on E-Talk this evening before AI. He looked super fine, his hair has grown back in since Idol, lol. They were covering the
making of his first music video and promoting his song "Living on a Long Shot" and his soon to be released album. He's signed to Canada's
biggest indie label apparently, the same one that Belly rapper is on.
Admittedly I will actually check out the song/video when its done. Also I have a vague feeling smartguy already posted something about this. |

Chris Labelle looks like a douche. I can smell his unwashed anus from here. Can we get back to TWN discussion pls. Kanadian Idol is sooooo 2008. |

I love Billy's voice but that song sucks. Also he looks fat and ugly with a shaved head. I know his hairline was receeding bad and him and Ryan were both
going bald way back during CI1 but it looks really awful.

suckshardcore wrote:Chris Labelle? Aside from being one of my picks for your post-Idol song game, I don't think I've ever brought him up. Could be wrong though. "Living on a long Shot" could do really well on the radio, and he could do well because of it if they promote him right. And since he's not with SBMG, he might actually have a shot.
