Overall Finish: 15th Place
Casting Story:
Found by a Casting associate while eating breakfast and was told to go audition at a nearby open call.
Commentary:
Yasmin is one of those people who was really a working actress who the producers decided to bill as a hairstylist when really, she hadn't even been a hairstylist in a few years. Although she provided some drama and entertainment early on, she was pretty insignificant to the season as a whole. I was glad to see that she and Ben made up at the Reunion though.
Personality/Character: There's no denying that Yasmin has a strong personality. She was definitely fun in her pre-show interviews and lived up to her nickname "Sassy Yassy." Although she was basically INV in 2 of her four episodes, she provided more entertainment in Episode 2 alone than most of the people in this cast did over the entire season. Her speech to the Foa Foas about "taking candy from a baby" and then her argument with Ben over the challenge proved that she had absolutely no idea how to play the social game, but at least they were fun to watch and proved that she would bring some drama to the show. That was a big moment early on and it was nice to see people fighting over something other than the game. Of course it led to Ben's "ghetto trash" comments too and Yasmin calling him "ignorant." It was just something that stands out in the season and we have Yasmin to thank for that.
Also, I think she could have had a good story in terms of being the "girl from the hood" who goes to survive in the woods, except they leave off that she really lived in Los Angeles and didn't just come right out of the streets of Detroit. But the idea behind her character wasn't bad.
Strategy: Where to begin here? Strategically, she was terrible and had no chance of ever lasting far into the game. I don't think she even wanted to or cared about winning at all, so to last four episodes was actually pretty good. For this reason, I can't rank her higher than 7, although she definitely had one of the best personalities. I also debated back and forth between Yasmin and Monica a lot. I've been thinking about it and I didn't want to hold it against her that much that she was never going to go far. I don't think everyone who is cast has a legitimate chance to win. Some people are there just as fodder whether to cause drama or whatnot and I think Yasmin was one of those people so it's not her fault.
Anyway, Yasmin's strategy was to do nothing around camp because she didn't want to be blamed for doing anything wrong. Apparently people "prey on that." Her logic there was extremely flawed. She wasn't blamed for doing anything wrong, she was just blamed for not doing anything. Period. At Foa Foa, the first thing she did when introducing herself was telling them that she was there to help them strategize so that Galu winning wouldn't be like "taking candy from a baby." Then she got into a public confrontation with Ben (part of it was in front of the whole tribe) over the Reward Challenge because Ben tackled her. Insulting the tribe and then getting into verbal altercations is a great way to make friends with people. And she didn't seem to care about the hidden Immunity Idol at all either.
To make a long story short ("too late!"), she had an entertaining personality but she brought nothing to the table strategically and had basically no chance of going far. She ranks this high pretty much for entertainment value alone.
