Jay's rating will not be any better than Conan's because some people will not watch becuase of this debacle and then there is still no good lead-in as the viewers have already been bled off.

All of this is Zucker's fault. HE should be the one getting the ax. He has made decisions to drive the network into the ground. GE should fire him now. The
programming is in the toilet.

"He has to broaden his appeal for central time zone cities like Chicago"???? I find that line from Ebersol's article insulting

Ebersol's an idiot and apparently has astonishingly rapid failing memory
You'd think between the affiliate demands to get rid of Leno and the public outcry in support of Conan, the NBC suits would get it. But I guess they like the way Leno sucks cock too much to hear the clattering and thudding sounds of their network crumbling around them

Leno is totally gonna spin it though. Like "I'm just trying to be a nice guy and get along with all but these mean boys keep picking on me, boo hoo". He should go back to, as Kimmel said, "taking care of his cars. |

Did anyone else think that Jimmy looked pissed to be there at first and it wasn't until he started with the zingers that he perked up and enjoyed himself?

Oh yeah.. Kimmmel did look mighty pissed. Almost like he was forced to be there.

Yes, I noticed that, too. Leno is such a dumbass. Obviously he thought Kimmel was going to "play nice" and act like his impersonation and jokes at
Leno's expense were done in a "I joke, because I love you" kind of thing. I am so glad that it backfired on Leno and he was skewered the way he
was.

IT's official! Conan released from contract. He got a chunk of money AND is able to work where ever he wants whenever he wants!
Conan's Exit Confirmed The late-night nightmare is almost over. Conan O'Brien is leaving NBC and receiving a payout-and he'll be free to appear on another network before his contract expires, Kim Masters reports. |

Okay, FOX. You better be making a fantastic offer to Conan today. I'll be waiting to hear about it and I will be tuning in to watch Conan on FOX and I
hope he goes back to NYC, as well.

If I understand this stuff correctly (I don't) FOX is in a hairy situation with their affiliates as well. If they put Conan on at 11 (or 11:30) they run
the risk of messing up syndication deals almost all FOX affiliates have in place for that hour. If I understand it (I don't) a local FOX affiliate can sell
up to 100% of local commercials on 'The Simpsons' or 'Raymond' or whatever. If FOX brings in a national show, they will actually lose
advertising revenue. That could piss their affiliates off like NBC did.

Why NBC's late-night math is hypocriticalby Jeff Hidek
So apparently NBC is close to a deal to send Conan packing (although likely with a sweet payout), which will undoubtedly continue to give late-night hosts like Letterman and Kimmel ammunition for weeks to come. Still, it's just a rotten deal for Conan. Yes, his ratings were not as good as those of Leno's "Tonight Show." But isn't Leno still partly to blame? The very fact that NBC has canceled "The Jay Leno Show" is proof that Conan needed more time. Let me explain. According to the Associated Press, the research firm Harmelin Media said NBC affiliates saw on average a 25 percent drop in their in November late news ratings. The outcry from those local stations is the big reason NBC canceled "Leno." NBC was making money on the "Leno" experiment, even with his middling ratings, and last summer NBC execs touted how their real victory would come in the summer months, when everybody else was in reruns. That's when they expected Leno to shine. "We're looking it as a 52-week experiment," they kept saying. But affiliates claimed "Leno" was too weak of a "lead-in," basically saying that they relied on NBC to give them a huge audience right before their late news cast that would stick around out of laziness or because of promos aired during the 10 p.m. show. NBC complied, thereby admitting that lead-in matters. Now follow me here. If a weak 10 p.m. show was causing the 11 p.m. shows to be weak. Why aren't weak 11 p.m. shows to blame for a weak 11:30 p.m. show? It's hypocritical for NBC to tell affiliates that yes, "The Jay Leno Show" is to blame for your low ratings, but then turn around and fault Conan alone for "The Tonight Show's" performance. If lead-ins are so important, why not acknowledge that Conan had a bad one? Why not give him time to see how he does with a better one? If they are telling Conan, "You should be able to succeed regardless of the low affiliate numbers," how can they cave to affiliates so easily? Well, of course the answer is that they need the affiliates behind them more than they need Conan. But it's still a horrible double standard. It also seems to imply that this attempt to move Conan to 12:05 wasn't as much about trying to keep Conan as it was about trying keep Jay. NBC obviously wanted to appease Jay after canceling his 10 p.m. show and didn't want him to bolt to another network either. Again, they chose between and Conan and someone else, and Conan lost. Personally, I think Conan should take the money, leave with his red head held high, and take Kurt Sutter's offer of a role on "Sons of Anarchy." |

That's a very good point about falsely blaming Conan for his rating while blaming the lead-in for the affiliates woes.

I LOVED the Kimmel piece. I've liked Jimmy way of doing comedy for a long time, but I fucking loved watching Leno get KILLED like that. That could be the
most uncomfortable delicious thing I've seen on TV in years. I was cringing and laughing my ass off at the same time!

All of this is Zucker's fault. HE should be the one getting the ax. This. Leno and Conan are just minor players in one great fucked up game of late night host chess. People should be boycotting NBC until Zucker steps down. He's the chessmaster behind this entire scenario. |
