The thing I love about this guy is his love and respect for movies and their history. I don't think there's enough of that in later generations of
directors. Tarantino's probably an exception (even though I personally can't stand him).

From a flat, self-congratulatory series of quips about Steve Carell (who stars in the U.S. version of Gervais' show "The Office"), to a stale joke about the omnipresence of plastic surgery in Hollywood, to a tasteless group of penis jokes, to unfunny jokes about Hugh Laurie and Kiefer Sutherland, Gervais only generated embarrassed chuckles from the assembled Tinseltown luminaries.
Fortunately, Nicole Kidman somewhat turned things around by immediately mentioning the Haiti relief efforts - including the multi-network telethon that George Clooney is organizer - when she was the first presenter up to hand out the award for best supporting actress in a film. Winner Mo'Nique also scored well - delivering a heartfelt acceptance speech, ending with a plea to abused women everywhere: ''I share this with every woman ever touched. It's OK to tell.'' Beatles legend Paul McCartney added his usual easy wit to the proceedings Sunday. As he hit the stage, Sir Paul, joked, ''I'm Paul McCartney, or as I'm now known, that guy from 'Rock Band,' '' a cute homage to the popular video game. He also brought down the house as he introduced the nominees for Best Animated Film by quipping they are not just for children, ''but for adults who take drugs, so here's the nominations of the films made by people on drugs.'' |

What loser with absolutely no sense of humor or irony or sarcasm wrote that article?
Not enough Ricky Gervais, for my tastes. Although, flipping through the channels today I caught a promo on HBO that the Ricky Gervais Show is going to begin in February?!? Can't wait. |

I think that critic is totally wrong about Ricky Gervais. Paul McCartney and Nicole Kidman were the duds
And I've always wanted to say to Robert DeNiro: "You are no Al Pacino, Mr. Robert DeNiro!: |
