I'm not at all surprised to hear that Dr. Drew is/was an addict. Only an ex-user can have the kind of compassion he has for other addicts.

Hmm. I always wondered how Dr. Drew could be so sympathetic addicts and their psychology.
I grew up on Loveline and KROQ...I'm 37 and still listening to it as I fall asleep each night. I don't know if Jim Trenton (the Poorman) is a trustworthy source though. I'd be interested to hear what Drew has to say about this. He had McKenzie Phillips on Loveline last night. They totally GET addicts/compulsive people. |

After watching the last epi, I do kind of agree with mike that shelly does get off on pushing people's buttons sometimes. She's a nice enough woman, self effacing and even quite likable at times, but I have noticed that she can also be a little condescending and judgmental too. Having said that, I hope she makes kari ann's life a living hell when she gets there. |

I don't think Shelly talks down to them, you can't baby these people since they did it to themselves, they're drug addicts, not cancer patients. I
think they should be a little harsher with them, you have scumbags like Mike who pikes all over the place and doesn't offer to help clean it up. I have no
sympathy for any of them, they're getting paid to go to rehab.

Well, according to doctors, addiction is a disease, just like cancer. It's a problem with treating any kind of mental illness. There's still huge
stigmas attached to being mentally ill, and there's that little "you can't get help unless you want to be helped" thing. Most people
don't want to be helped because they're mentally ill.

i think Shelly is amazing. you can't coddle them too much, because unlike cancer patients, addicts are manipulative liars who will walk all over anyone.
look at how Heidi loves to ask people really uncomfortable and personal questions. she likes to make people squirm, it's obvious. |

I think the problem is that these people are "celebrities" and are used to people kissing their asses and bending over backwards for them so when
someone doesn't do that, the other person is the problem, not them

i knew someone who poured hot cooking oil over their hand and said it was an accident to get painkillers. he got more than he bargained for-the burn was so
severe he was hospitalized for 2 weeks and skin graft surgery. but he did get the painkillers. he is now dead.dead.dead.

My first thought was also that it might be a way to get more drugs... Sadly, that is all to common with severe addicts.
For some reason I really can't get into this new cast. I feel they're more caught up in their famewhoredness than in really doing anything for themselves. |
