This is very shocking. I know she is not the only one in this situation and who knows if it'll change anything but fuck she lost a year because she didn't have an insurance. This is so unfair

I feel so angry about it.

The problem when you don't have insurance is that you tend to try to ride out small things, especially if you don't have the money, but also sometimes you consider the pre-existing condition clause. My husband and I have not had insurance since he was laid off in May last year because we couldn't afford the COBRA payments. Even though I have been cancer free for 7 years, I get scared to death that it will recur. I don't even want to know if it does until we have insurance again so that they can't invoke the pre-existing condition clause. Thank goodness I had a clean CT Scan a year ago, so I have proof. It is so expensive to try and stay alive.

By the way, I think a great tribute to Jenn would be if the Survivor auction proceeds from Heroes versus Villains props would go to the charity she supported.

Good luck getting insurance with cancer in your history. Christ almighty, my father's is through the roof just from the stints he had put in and he's had a clean bill of health for years in great physical condition. They were like a precautionary thing. He can't switch coverage because no one else would take him most likely so he's stuck paying out the ass.

I know exactly what you mean... I have so many chronic problems stemming from asthma, IBS, chronic tendinitis (due to playing softball for 10+ years)... not to mention that since I was 24 till now I have had a TB scare, cancer scare (what they originally though my tendinitis was... bone cancer).... mono (hospitalized due to my enlarged spleen)... and (most recently) in and out of the hospital for MONTHS this past spring/summer with a ruptured appendix ending in surgery in the fall!

The only company that will insure me is Assurant and you have NO idea how much I pay ($600 a month)... and the coverage SUCKS. I have $3500 in hospital bills I am paying monthly for right now because of my recent surgery and hospitalizations (3 different times).

The way our country works as this moment... there are plenty of people out there trying not to sweat what they THINK are the small things because they can not afford the cost of keeping themselves WELL.

It's fucking sick to think about... and I (unfortunately) think about it every fucking day!
