Christ almighty, my father's is through the roof just from the stints he had put in and he's had a clean bill of health for years in great physical condition. They were like a precautionary thing. He can't switch coverage because no one else would take him most likely so he's stuck paying out the ass. |

Mypoody2 wrote:I know exactly what you mean... I have so many chronic problems stemming from asthma, IBS, chronic tendinitis (due to playing softball for 10+ years)... not to mention that since I was 24 till now I have had a TB scare, cancer scare (what they originally though my tendinitis was... bone cancer).... mono (hospitalized due to my enlarged spleen)... and (most recently) in and out of the hospital for MONTHS this past spring/summer with a ruptured appendix ending in surgery in the fall! The only company that will insure me is Assurant and you have NO idea how much I pay ($600 a month)... and the coverage SUCKS. I have $3500 in hospital bills I am paying monthly for right now because of my recent surgery and hospitalizations (3 different times). The way our country works as this moment... there are plenty of people out there trying not to sweat what they THINK are the small things because they can not afford the cost of keeping themselves WELL. It's fucking sick to think about... and I (unfortunately) think about it every fucking day! |

I know this isn't the place to have these conversations about health care, but I think most civilized humans around the world have a difficult time
understanding how the US populace can be so afraid of universal health care. I hope Jenn's family didn't have to worry about the costs of her
treatments and hospital stay. Thank the powers that be when I or my family has to use most of the healthcare system, I do not have a thing to worry about with
respect to cost. Am just able to concentrate on giving the supportive care that only a loved one can give.

I think this is a PERFECT place to say "FUCK THE AMERICAN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM."

Heliox wrote: I disagree, why shouldn't we talk about it? Jenn may still be alive today if she had access to a free public health system as we do in Australia and the UK. I think the U.S. system fucking sucks, and tragic events like this only make it suck even harder. I can't for one minute imagine how or why so many Yanks are against it. I really need someone to explain it to me, because it makes no sense whatsoever. |

TroubleInTampa wrote:Healthcare is free here - ie Jenn could have had a mammogram or whatever was needed immediately. There are Breast Cancer Screening Vans that any woman can go to for free, that the Government pays for and actively encourages women to go to, because in the long run it SAVES LIVES. If Jenn had been Australian she would have had access to the treatment that just might have saved her life. That really sucks. Not to criticise America (I think it's a great country, I've been there many times, I married an American and my two children are American) but your healthcare system is extremely backwards. In many other countries getting treatment if you get sick does not depend on how much money/insurance you have. |

At the risk of sounding like a total Suckster asshole... I have to say that I'm ready for the unsticky of this thread. This is a sad story, but I don't
come to Sucks to mourn a person whom I've never met and barely recall. One day, fine. Dragging this out ad nauseum is not necessary.
I come to Sucks to escape into a world of bad chops and pointless strategy conversations. If I want to be depressed, I'll turn off the computer and deal with my real life. |
