It's a done deal! The settlement is in line with the annual production cost of "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Conan is getting $33 million
from NBC, with the network also agreeing to pay his staff $12 million in severance.

In retrospect, and while admitting that I'm loving the last two weeks of the show, I actually think Ebersol was right in complaining that Conan didn't
originally do enough to please the Central Time Zone folks.
While the show comes in at 11:30 on the coasts, the show is on at 10:30 in the central time zone. Thus more people are awake to watch. Despite this, when Conan first started his version of The Tonight Show, he made the mistake of making his show a little too SoCal-centric. I'm sure he was going for the whole fish out of water concept, but in reality, poking fun at SoCal has been comedically done to death. And it didn't help that "the water" was New York. Comparing New York to SoCal has also been done to death. And I doubt it had much interest for residents of Chicago, St.Louis and Dallas. But when an employee gets screwed by the boss, that's universal. |

I still think the number one reason for Conan's numbers to be so low was the fact that NBC cancelled and did away with all of their 10 p.m. dramas and
people were watching other networks from 10 to 11 and didn't bother switching back to NBC for news and late night. Leno's 10 p.m. shitfest is what
started the ratings to plummet and neither the local news affiliates or Conan could recover from that devastating hit to ratings.
The only reason NBC pulled Leno from 10:00 is because of all the affiliates bitching and making threats because they lost viewers for their local news. This had nothing to do with what Conan was doing at 11:35. In fact, NBC would still have Leno on at 10 if their affiliates weren't threatening them, because NBC was "saving money" and didn't give a damn whether viewers preferred scripted dramas over that douchebag Leno. |

The ratings thing is so overstated. They weren't THAT bad. Letterman pulled ahead because of the scandal and the overall diminished NBC ratings. But even
so, Letterman/Conan were neck and neck with Conan pulling ahead at times. This idea that ratings were in the cellar and that Conan was about to cause the
network to be canceled is all just a distraction by NBC to keep people from blaming them/Leno for this mess.

I'm in canada, so i cant see the episodes on nbc/hulu, but did they cut the whole mouse car bit from the show online? Obviously NBC isnt gonna air reruns
of conan [especially not this episode], so i wonder if they managed to stop the song/bit from being played ever again?

Yeah, apparently they are not making that clip available on NBC's site (Hulu TBD) http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2010/01/21/rolling-stones-give-conan-obrien-satisfaction-as-tonight-books-neil-young-for-last-show/
Also (according to that article), the Friday episode might be delayed because of a Haiti teleathon. |

Oh NOES!
Mr. O'Brien's settlement prevents him from hosting a new show before Sept. 1. There are also restrictions on his appearing in print and on air: While he can do guest appearances as a character on a TV show, he can't do interviews, according to people familiar with the situation. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703699204575017450198490036.html |

Pee Wee Herman! Creepy as hell though.
I love nothing more than a horse that watches restricted NFL footage.

I don't get the whole "Leno's show tanking caused Conan's ratings to be bad" argument. Conan had been on since June and Leno's show
didn't start until September. The reason why Conan wasn't as popular as Jay is because Jay's audience is primarily people over 40 whereas Conan
targets the younger crowd. Instead of staying up for Conan, the people that watched Leno's tonight show just went to bed.

I was really hoping Barry Manilow was going to cranked out a new verison of Mandy, entitled 'Coco'.
Or at least a verison of the Coco-cabana. |
