Pretty sweet opener. Hopefully it maintains better than last season. I wish they'd just ditch the "6 MONTHS LATER" screen though, or at least limit them to once or twice an ep. It's pretty fucking obvious to anybody with a pulse.

Really good episode. I wasn't a huge fan of the UNR storyline last season and William Hurt bored me, whereas I already am more intrigued by this story and by the supporting cast. Lily Tomlin especially impressed me.
Barring surprising ratings, I think it's safe to assume this is the last season of Damages, but still, killing off essentially the third biggest character on the show in the season premiere is ballsy. |

They killed Tom?
Damn! He was a totally useless character, but great eye candy. |

I'm intrigued by the killing off Tom element (and agree we don't need the "time shift for dummies" screen), but the Madoff-esque storyline has me snoozing. It's going to have to have more of a twist than the preview suggested.
I did love the ciggie precariously perched in Tomlin's mouth as she spoke. |

I personally thought Tom was a waste of space at the end of season 1, so him getting killed off doesnt surprise me. Im actually glad something happened because if they were using a mystery of "Who hit Patty?" I was going to be pretty pissed. It looks like Tom/Ellen were involved with the family in question too. Looks to be a great season.
And this is a new day for "Damages" correct? Perhaps FX is trying to save it by moving nights. Hopefully the critical acclaim will keep it running. |

Talk about an amazing premiere.
The fact that FX provided this without a single commercial made me appreciate it even more. First, I have come to fully accept and appreciate the "six months later", "six months earlier" routine that this show pulls. I get it. It is part of the charm. This season though, they may have done it best. The season one mystery is still the most interesting because it was fresh but this was far and away better than what season two presented. The mix of the car accident, the purse, the cell phone, Tom's body...and it seems to actually weave together with the other plot of the season. I am amazed and completely intrigued about how they plan on bridging the gap with these stories- if indeed we have a bridge to gap. I love the main story more than last season already because it involves something far more interesting. A rich family involved in a money fraud scheme is way more intriguing than the environmental material from last season. Which brings me to... the acting tonight. Whoa. Close, Byrne, Donovan, Short, Scott, and Tomlin were just on fire. I especially loved the scene with Close and Tomlin. Just pitch perfect. Everything was really solid though. I guess the writing needs to be given kudos as well because they really seemed to have planned this out in a very specific way. I was pretty much blown away by this just as I was the season one premiere. I can't wait to see what happens next. Waiting a week...going to be complete hell. |

Definitely looks more promising than last season. And how weird is it to see Martin Short in that type of roll?? I keep expecting him to start emoting about Pat Sajak.
In fact, this season especially seems like the dumping ground for washed up actors. Seems to work, though. |

Martin Short was great. That type of character, the guy who assumes he's smarter than everybody in the room even if he isn't, is a good fit for him. Tomlin, I'm not sold on yet. I kept seeing the actress and not the character.
And to clarify, I love the time-shift as a DEVICE. It's the literal "6 MONTHS LATER" tag that's annoying. Not sure if that was clear. |

I thought Tomlin completely killed it. If anything, when she guested on Desperate Housewives, I saw the actress and not the character. But on here, totally different. Same goes for Short. I was truly impressed by everyone. I don't think the show has a weak member of the ensemble this season judging from what we saw tonight. Last season, I could name a few that I thought were not on par with the main cast (the two cops come to mind).

Tomlin, I'm not sold on yet. I kept seeing the actress and not the character.Same problem I had. I think theres more to the character than weve obviously seen so far though, so Im expecting that to change. |

agreed with everyone so far: a definite improvement from last seasons premiere. more engrossing characters/possible twists and turns. also expect this to be the final season barring a surge in ratings. love the time jumps/foreshadowing, especially when the pieces all start to come together.

Ummmmmm, why is no one talking about Reiko Angelsworth's amazing performance in here? So inspiring <3. Her and Kate Warner better have scenes together this season, or the 24 reunion is ruined
Anyhow, pretty great start I thought. The season preview definitely has me excited. Tom getting whacked was okay to me. Yeah, hes the third most important character, but really this show is: 1. Ellen/Patty; 2-1000. everyone else. It was the only person they could whack and get that OMFG reaction without killing Patty/Ellen, which obviously wasn't going to happen. At least now he has the rest of the season to hopefully get some strong storylines. Whats the over under on Ellen working at Hewes, Shayes & Associates again? Two more episodes? |

Did anybody else notice that there was a statue of liberty bookend, like the ones used to like David, in the passenger seat of the car that hit Patty?

It didn't look like a bookend to me. It looked too small and it was green.

The guy playing the detective was "Dolarhyde" in "Manhunter". The original Hannibal Lecktor movie. That freaked me right the fuck out. His character in that movie is so creepy.

I love this show. Definitely thinking that this seasons premiere is much better than season 2.
But Glenns face. Damn Does it move? Girl is NOT aging gracefully. |

Patty is back! But WTF, no commercials? A bathroom break would have been nice last night. Besides that, I really liked the first epi and have hope that Season 3 will make up for a fucked-up Season 2 ending.

Go to 2:59. Its actually a Statue of Liberty bobblehead, not the book end weve seen previously. |
