See, people like you and my SIL have no idea what we mediocre people suffer through in order to produce truly decent meals. My MIL, too. It's humiliating when they come to dinner, no matter how gracious they are about it.

Lol...no. Mostly camping trips and a couple of dinner parties (the kind thrown by people who can't stay organized in the kitchen, apparently).

Great pots and pans are just showing off, like stone countertops and stainless steel appliances.

All Clad for the stainless steel, though Tramontina is a cheaper alternative - just make sure you get the kind with either an aluminum or a copper core in the base
at least one good cast iron pan - if you don't want to go through the salt and oil seasoning bit, get enamel coated cast iron (Le >Creuset or Staub or that Emeril brand), but never, never use metal utensils in the enamel types |

Spend the $$ for quality pots, dutch ovens, etc. However a couple of cheap but heavy restaurant quality 8" non-stick frying pans are important to have. I bought a 2-pack at Costco for $25ish. They'll last me a couple of years and when the bottoms start to get rounded from the heat I'll toss them and buy new.

I may have a cheap cutting board since there is no difference where you chop your veggies, but don't go cheap on the cookware.
And stay away from "nonstick" shit... it wears down and comes off in your food. It will probably be found to be the next cause of cancer. Cuisinart |

Um...you're a moron. there is a world of difference in how it effects your knives. Go put some salt in your lava lamp so it will boil faster.
