I've had unreasonably high expectations since reading some stuff online, but the pilot did not disappoint! I love this show already. <3

I stumbled upon this show by accident and LOVED it. I just hope they can keep up the quality.
I like the debate in this thread about Cate's likeability -- it shows that the character is complex enough to keep us interested. The girl who plays Lux is wonderful. She pulled off the cynical/world-weary teenager schtick fine, but still was able to display the vulnerability we'd expect from a 16 year old who's never had a parent. Nate was a bit too cliched and predictable, so I hope they give him little more to work with. And yes, the final line was completely schmaltzy and completely predictable, but I bought it completely. The fact that Lux was able to sell a cheesy line like that gives me high hopes for the show. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was tearing-up at least 5 or 6 times during that hour. |

So they named the charater Cate Cassidy? Sort of like Melrose Place's Katie Cassidy?

I liked this episode. Much more fast paced than the last.

wow, this episode had sooo many schmaltzy speeches, even the side characters got to do some speeches, it's crazy. I love it!

Another great episode. I loved it when Lux explained where her name came from. And the guilt and pain in the eyes of Cate at times is phenomenal.

I liked this episode but I found Lux a bit less sympathetic. In the first, you really felt bad for her because she was a good kid stuck in a bad system. But now it turns out she wasn't such a good kid--planning on moving in with ehr bf, etc. I think I would have liked it better if it was just her and the female friend planning to run away together.
However, I LOVE what bad parents they are--like when Baze took her driving! I tihnk this twist on parenting is a refreshing change from the parents depicted in almost every other show on TV. Still love this show. |

i want to love this show, but the schmaltz is a bit much. i have a very low tolerance for it. when the parents were telling the case worker, "we can give her what no one else ever has. we can love her." i almost hurled. they really need to tone that shit down.
i am going to give it a few more episodes, though. and this is totally dorky, but as a knitter, i am loving the hats that Lux wears and am trying to figure out the patterns for some of them. some great knitwear on this show. glad they explained her name. i couldn't figure out if it was a nickname, or what it would be shortened from. it was bugging me. |

I like that they made Lux more real. She's not some perfect Rory Gilmore who is going to fit perfectly into her new life.

I missed the end, what's the deal with her name?

Lux = Light. A nursed named her that because two dark-haired parents gave birth to a light-haired kid.
The bedroom scene made my heart melt. This show is so sweet. I think I'm going to gush over it every week. |

good enough show, but if lux had friends to live with why was she sleeping in front of her fathers bar during the first episode? I dont ask for much, but I do want some consistancy

I hope they focus more on Ryan soon, but it's more important to develop the three leads in the early episodes. For now, I think he's a pretty likable supporting character. |

Baze's angry and hostile dad was too much of a cliche. As a lifelong goofball myself, I can tell you that real life dads of goofball adult males tend to be more snide and less confrontational.
