Have we talked about what a weiner Evan Bayh is?

Democratic leaders are coalescing around the idea of the House passing the Senate bill, with both chambers agreeing to follow-up legislation that would settle major differences.

The strategy calls for the Senate to use a budget-related procedure — reconciliation_ that requires only 51 votes to advance. Even so, leaders may not be able to round up the votes.

"My concern is that if reconciliation is used, that will really destroy any prospects for bipartisan cooperation on anything else for the remainder of this year," Bayh said. "That would be a regrettable state of affairs, something I think the American public would not react well to."

So I see J.D. Hayworth is going to run against John McCain for the Republican nomination for Senate in Arizona this year. Hayworth seems to think McCain is too "moderate." This would be the strategery where the right-wing teabaggers kick out a safe moderate incumbent and then lose to the Democrat. It will be a more interesting November than the Republicans think.

Back to real issues...

This spending freeze that Obama is announcing: Is this just to calm the conservadems who immediately blanch at the thought of spending during a downturn? From what I read, it won't be implemented until 2011 - our economy could well be on the upswing by then, and the freeze scrapped. So what good is it?

I really sense Hopey's willingness to compromise is turning him into a waffler. You can't promote one school of fiscal thought, then switch to another when people grumble... it tends to make people believe you don't know what the fuck you're doing.

And while I'm at it - why in the FUCK has only a third of the stimulus been paid out a year after it's implementation? How in holy hell can that money stimulate growth to the extent required when the majority of it hasn't entered the economic pipeline? And now people are pushing for a second stimulus?

That was the plan from the beginning... the Dems wanted to spend the lion's share of the money in the months leading up to the midterm elections.
