Why don't they just call this damn season Survivor: Third Time's A Charm? Listening to RFF Radio right now and can't get over how many people are third time contestants...and not very many GOOD ones. Parvati?! Amanda?! James?! Colby?! Jerri?! STEPHEME????
God knows I'll watch this season. I'm practically beholden to it. But what was production thinking?

Well duh. But the fact is that people like Jerri, Colby, Steph and Rupert are remembered by the casual audience, and having them on will probably bring in viewers.

I'm fine with some threepeaters to bring in casual viewers, but it's almost half the cast. Jerri, Colby, and Cirie I'm good with. SME, Rob M, and Rupert didnt need to be there but I understand their cast. Parvati, Amanda, and James just played this fucking game and I have no real desire to see them again so soon--particularly James.

without third timers there'd be no Jerri, Boston Rob and Steph. Is having those three back worth yet another season of Colby, Rupert, James, Cirie, Amanda? I say yes but it's closer than you would think.
Make no mistake about it Colby is, was, and will always be painfully boring. His strange relationship with Probst is the only intriguing aspect of his Survivor character. Rupert is so over the top and phony it's not even fun to watch and the fact that he is taking away screentime from much more interesting players is aggravating. James is arguably the worst strategical player in the history of this game, how the hell he deserves a third chance is beyond me. Amanda is actually a good player but not the least bit entertaining and 3 times in 6 seasons is too much for a player of her caliber. Cirie is a one dimensional player (strategist) and adds nothing but a physical liability for her tribe and an unattractive body for viewers. I hate to be superficial but she isn't hot or entertaining enough for a third opportunity. Parvati won her last season so although I'm not looking forward to watching her play for the third time in less than 4 years, she earned her spot. Sucks to hear that one of my favs Shane Powers didn't make the cut thanks to Russell. I'll say it again, Coach should have been on the heroes side to open up another villains spot. Shane should be on the Villains tribe, or if he couldn't play for some reason then give the spot to Todd H. or even Rob C. Overall a good cast but it could have been great. |

Russel is pulling a Rupert and on back to back seasons. I wouldn't be surprised if they put him in Season 22. Nor would I be surprised if they somehow get him in on 21.

I think the main motivation behind 3-peats is that we all want to see them together. The whole premise behind an all-stars is to see how the best of the best interact with one another. We have to see the most popular survivors together. That's why i think they did it. Stephenie, Rupert, Sugar and Russell all on one season together is something that fans would love to see and theyre gonna get that finally. That's the main reasoning I think.

Amanda and James, in their original seasons, were both great casting choices. Amanda continues to be a good choice because she's a very good player. James continues to be a good choice because he's huge, says funny stuff, and America loves him. I think the biggest reason we feel overdosed on them (which I myself also feel), is that China happened RIGHT before Micronesia, and they also seem to be like a packaged deal now. They've started on the same tribe every time they've been on.
That being said, I'm actually looking forward to seeing them play again, just to see if they wise up and stop teaming up together strategically (James should especially learn his lesson, since Amanda jumped ship on him twice now). While Parvati may not have deserved her spot on FvF, she earned her spot on HvV based on her performance in FvF. |
