This proposition supposes that Grandma was gravely ill before Fairplay left to play the game... so how is it plausible that she had international travel plans into the Panamanian wild within a few weeks in case she didn't croak?
Stupid.

but one thing didn't make sense about Fairplay's grandma lie is that he said to Probst, "It was either gonna be my grandma or my friend visiting today, and my grandma's not here for a reason. She's dead."

Well she could have been healthy, but dropped dead suddenly from a heart attack or stroke.

Or someone threw a piano out of a window and it fell on her.

After quickly and happily hugging his friend, he gets all somber and goes "Oh, dude, how's Grandma??" So the implication is that something was wrong with her to start with, not some sudden death thing. I was going to include this bit of information in the first post but I a) figured people were dumb losers enough to remember it and b) know that people are too dumb to read threads beyond like a thousand characters.

How would this be remotely conducive to a flaming wood?

Vachina wrote:It's probably because you're not going to question the fact that someone died. I mean, suppose someone actually does speak up and say that they think Fairplay is lying, don't you think they would be putting themselves in a horrible position by proposing that he's lying about his dead grandmother? There are fallacies in his lie, but still, no one is ever going to question something as somber as that. |

The sudden death theory isn't total bullshit. Fairplay claimed that his first choice person was his grandma, and that production asked him to pick a second choice in case something happened. So it makes sense that when he saw she wasn't there, that he became concerned and asked his friend about him. So his story is still reasonable.

i think what drboboosh2 and also joseppe95 make in their posts is good truth. i find it believable that fairplay's lie was not questioned.

I always found it funny how this is supposedly one of the most epic moments in Survivor, yet barely had any impact on the season.

^ I know right? I just watched it on this old Best 40 scenes of Reality TV. So the others gave up their family reward for him? It might have been slightly worthwhile if he and ThunderD had got to go on a luxurious reward , but they only got to spend a night at the sucky camp together lol so he got nothing out of it within the game at all.

Maybe his grandma was perfectly healthy, she opened a thread as bad as this one right before departure, it pushed her over the edge and she took her her own life.

Yeah, this grandma lie thing bothered me as well. Even more so after listening to the commentary on the DVD. Apparently, Jon set up that lie earlier during the game telling people that if his grandma didn't turn up in the family challenge that something has happened to her. This implies that Jon knew his grandma was gravely ill and yet still nominated her for the family challenge. Then when it came to the family challenge, surprise... his grandma didn't turn up because she apparently died. I mean... how could other people not find this suspicious? I don't like Sandra that much, but at least she was smart enough to smell something fishy. |
