Joss felt that there were enough changes to the scene at FOX to bring Dollhouse there and not have to worry about going through the same troubles he did with Firefly. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen. Honestly though and this is coming from someone who has really enjoyed the program so far, Dollhouse would have struggeled on any major network - it is just that type of show.
I don't know what I'm talking about? Respectfully, could you please explain/defend his descision to work with Fox again? He's already paying, as Dollhouse doesn't stand a chance. They're gonna do to it just the same as Firefly. And what else am I mistaken about? If you know him personally to say that, or any hopeful information God knows I'd like to be proven wrong.
And as I have already mentioned, it is not as easy as you think it is to bring Firefly back. Here are the facts - Firefly under-performed on television. Serenity under-performed at the box office. Are there contributing factors and reasons that went into both of those facts that were out of Joss and the show's control? Absolutley, but those are still the facts and they can't be changed.
FOX had no interest in bringing back the show post Serenity. Nor did CBS, NBC, ABC, and so on. If they did (and this goes for before and after Serenity) the deal would have been made and God willing the show would be on right now. But what needs to be realized here is that FOX still owns the rights to the TV show, they will until reportedly 2012. So unless FOX gave Joss permission to go elsewhere (which they haven't) or decide to bring the show back themselves (which they won't) there can't be a Firefly ressurection. The same goes with Universal for the movie rights to Serenity. There is a lot of legal red-tape there.
Firefly is a fantastic series and many regard Serenity as the best Sci-Fi film of all time. Would we all have loved more? Of course. It just doesn't seem to be in the cards and I for one am okay with it.
