ugh, district 9 so overrated. Pretty much the most predictable nominations ever though. Also, if the girl from an education wins over bullock it will be amazing.

I watched District 9 a few days before I saw Avatar, and they are very similar movies: allegories about the treatment of foreigners, evil corporations trying to take advantage of aliens, white man comes to the rescue, etc. But when I was watching Avatar, I was thinking how much better District 9 was. Avatar should win some technical Oscars, but if it wins Best Picture, it'll be a crime. Personally, I'm hoping "Basterds" wins.

Leave it to the Academy to bloat their list to 10 nominees and still screw something up. Replace District 9 (I mean, I liked it, but WHY?) with either 500 Days or Hangover.
The other big wtf is in Animated Feature where 9 was snubbed in favor of "The Secret of Kells", which I'm pretty sure they just made up because even the people listed as having made it have never heard of it. I always use the noms as my checklist to see all the best films of the year. I can't wait to start torrenting screeners. Avatar is still Best Picture though. Even if it's not the best of the year, it's everything that Hollywood wants in a Best Picture. |

Glad to see that T-Bone Burnett got a nomination, but that Ryan Bingham should let T-Bone sing instead.

I just checked out the nominations and aside from the stupidity of the whole 10 noms for best picture this year has someone explained in this thread why Actor and Supporting Actress only have 4 noms each? Is that a mistake on the website or did they just not deem anyone worthy enough even for a nomination? Because I find it really fucking hard to believe that out of all the movies this year they can't find a supporting actress nomination that is better than Marisa Tomei. or Abigail Breslin were in years past. |
