How accessible is Survivor to new viewers?

Gabon wasn't even aired until a few months ago and only half of it got on, Tocantins was 6 months late and the Samoa finale aired last night. HvV is going to be on like Guatemala and Exile Island, allegedly. The promo's have been coming back in droves and I estimate that a lot of Australian viewers will flow back.

Where are you located, Spina? In Qld we got the whole season on the GO! Channel. And the Samoa finale is on tomorrow night here, not last night. Tonight is the return of Desperate Housewives and also Good News Week (yay!). Channel Nein are making a big thing about S20 which is great because it's likely we'll get it shortly after it airs in the US. But even if it doesn't I'll be watching it on You Tube, like I have the past few seasons.

It is noticeable that in the change from season 8 to season 9, that FRIENDS went off the air, and while Survivor has remained the top show at 8 PM on thursdays, you would think there should have been a ratings spike after FRIENDS went off the air. I do think that there were a lot of upset fan's that did not like how ALL STARS 1 was done- it did come off disrespectful to former winners and perhaps the disappointment in it resulted in a lot of fan's leaving the show around that time (would account for the drop off in ratings). In 2006 is when Ugly Betty debuted and it did give Survivor a competition there for a season or so. There was a larger effort on FOX's part to move BONES to Thursday as well, which also could have been the reason for a drop in ratings again. Must everything you post be a fucking novel? We are talking about Survivor's ratings over the last seasons, and part of any reason of any ratings jump or decline has to do with what other networks are putting up against Survivor. BONES, while I am not that into that show, the few episodes I have seen are generally pretty good. I hear it has a pretty dedicated fan base, and if any of them were Survivor fans, they may well be watching BONES and putting SURVIVOR on the back burner. Even Probst weighed in on things when UGLY BETTY was put up against Survivor.

I live in Victoria, we only got from I think Marcus' boot on GO! but we have different programming down south and I got a bit confused with the Samoa finale, it is on tonight. My bad. And besides, it normally takes a day for the person with the best quality upload channel (a member by the name of stentilyzier. Bit of a mouthful) to upload the show and by then it's normally been spoiled somehow. One thing I was pretty annoyed with when FvF was on was that Nine actually spoiled the winner online at ninemsn right before the show started airing (mind you, this was 6 months after it finished) Why put it on if you're going to spoil the winner?

It was one of the first reality shows to air after September 11th, and the TV critics of the time did a masterful job of convincing America that "reality TV was dead" and "nobody cares about frivolous crap on TV anymore after 9/11." So when Survivor: Africa debuted, there was this huge stigma that people weren't supposed to be watching that shit anymore, and the ratings suffered. As the season went on, and people loosened up their sphincters, the Survivor ratings gradually came back to their usual levels, hence the ratings climb. I love that Osama Bin Laden had an unintentional impact on Survivor ratings. Bin Laden must have been an NBC fan.
