I get the feeling that's a euphemism. EW has already reported that the third role is a black r&b singer who will be a potential love interest for Mercedes. So Perez got his news mixed up. Kurts boyfriend is a jock type.

To recap, those roles are an Eve Harrington-esque rival for Rachel and a gay jock-slash-boyfriend for Kurt. Well, the time has come for me to exclusively reveal the identity of the third and final Glee newbie… “The third role is an R&B-singing teen,” Murphy tells me. “A male Mercedes!”

Remember the second role of a soulful (but not necessarily black) male Mercedes? Guess what! They are one in the same! The same character, people! Trust me, we’ll be expecting some drama between Kurt and Mercedes. Will they be fighting over him? Maybe Mercedes gets a little jealous that Kurt’s spending more time with a boy than he is with her… (Bust Your Windows Part 2, anyone?) Which means, the there are two roles remaining, and we’re telling you exclusively that both of them are female! The first is an antagonistic nemesis against Rachel, as previously announced. As we know, Rachel does not like to sing backup, so what happens when someone as equally talented and beautiful joins the glee club? Trouble! Also, there will be another New Directions antagonist for a different character, but we won’t say who just yet. Everything’s been pretty easy for the glee club now that they have some jocks and Cheerios on their side, but expect that all to change in Season 2.

I also think it would have been nice to have more guys that can sing rather than girls. Right now, the Glee girls > guys in singing ability. It would be nice to balance it out.
