His good looks made up for any bad acting cuz I sure didn't notice.

Thanks for the info Hanson. I will probably see it eventually as long as it's better than "Juno"!

For all you "500 Days of Summer" fans, why do you think it deserves a screenplay nom? I've seen the movie and thought it was really well done. I thought Joseph and Zoey were pretty solid too, but I dont think the script was anything really new.

THE BLIND SIDE!?
What the fuck? That spot should absolutely go to A Single Man. And 500 days should be in place of Up IMO. Don't really get the Freeman nomination, he was far from anything special in Invictus. |

Actually quite a few surprises, but not a lot of acting shocks. Only one HUGE one...
THE GOOD: Maggie motherfucking Gyllenhaal!!!!!!! District 9 (500) Days of Summer complete snubbage An Education nominations Harry Potter cinematography No Mélanie Laurent Vera getting her dues Invictus snub (which I saw coming... it was a VERY weak #10 for me) NO JULIANNE MOORE! This was the one thing I was insistent about since like... fucking September. The Hurt Locker 9 nominations, for random shit like Original Score which it got NOWHERE ELSE. Locked up people. Enough about Avatar. THE BAD: Matt Damon. Seriously, nobody ever talk shit about Rudy Dee again. No Saoirse Ronan No Anthony Mackie No Alfred Molina No Diane Kruger Israel getting a make up nomination and probably win in foreign film THE UGLY: No Abbie Cornish The Blind Side for BP (although if the pattern continues this all but assures Meryl a win...) Precious for editing. WHAT??? No Ponyo UP |

pushingjate wrote: Well I actually would have LIKED for it to get a Best Picture nom, and the acting and direction were worthy as well. But this type of movie (think Eternal Sunshine, which is probably the most robbed movie of the decade at the Oscars imo) seem to ONLY get screenplay nods. So it's all I really expected. "Oh, you made an indie romdramedy that's really amazing? Here have a screenplay nod bye now." |

lol at you thinking Melanie Laurent deserved a nomination for sitting down and looking uncomfortable. And thinking Julianne Moore deserved one for laughing and talking in the worst British accent ever for 5 minutes
Sorry you don't appreciate actual perfected subtlety like Abbie Cornish, who gave the best performance of the year after Mo'nique. Thank god YOU'RE not an Oscar voter if you thought The Blind Side was really on the same level as The Hurt Locker or if you thought that Precious' editing was done by anybody older than the age of 3 playing with their parent's windows movie maker. |

Oh wait, I just checked and Eternal Sunshine DID at least win screenplay. For some reason I remembered it losing. It still should have won everything else too especially over the dreck known as Million Dollar Baby ^_^ |

Don't wet yourself.
I can't believe in a field of 10 nominees they still managed to snub Where The Wild Things Are, Moon, and 500 Days of Summer. Zero total nominations for those 3 films. |

If someone wants to criticize the Academy for nominating kiddie cartoons with talking dogs as well as populist Christian Inspirational claptrap for best picture, ITA.
And Ponyo was better than any of the Animated Feature nominees. Well, The Secret of Kells could be better but who the fuck knows? No one I know has heard of it much less seen it. |

swim4life227 wrote:Although this is true, Kate Winslet had the buzz from the beginning of the year and several critics awards for The Reader, plus the 5 failed nominations factor. And Revolutionary Road. The only person I would compare Sandra Bullock to is Helen Hunt, who was still a pretty obvious winner.Miles Edgeworth wrote: The fact that Julie & Julia didn't get nominated for anything else though (especially considering I thought it had a chance for Best Picture with some of the older voters) shows how weak Meryl really is in terms of her chances. Bitch has practically all of Hollywood in her pocket but Bullock has been stealing them away in just 2 months. |
