Remove this ad The british version of Xfactor has proved Xfactor blows AI out of the water. Fox is taking a HUGE risk running both of Simon's shows. I know Xfactor will run during the fall, but basically having two bigass talent shows that take up a huge amount of airtime space is not a good idea for Fox. What happens down the line when both shows have run their course and Fox have massiv egaps in their schedule to fill? NBC anyone? Lol if both shows were to somehow fail. Although its unlikely. They're better off trying this out for one year and then cancelling AI after season 10. WTF are they thinking that people will actually tune in to watch Randy, Ellen, and Kara?

If the ratings actually do collapse, I'm sure they will cancel it eventually. If X-Factor turns out to be a dud, and AI remains popular, they won't. Not enough data to write that epitaph just yet.

And luckily for the producers, Adam's CD will be going gold in another couple of weeks. But if next season's winner doesn't significantly outsell Kris Allen, Idol will be in a horrible position. They are supposed to be searching for winners who will become stars, not trivia contest answers. Some of Idol's future depends on Simon. He will be leaving the show but still owns a piece of it. And given his ego, he'd probably like to see it get cancelled "because he quit," even if that has nothing to do with it. But actually, unless they can assemble a better group than last year, Idol SHOULD be cancelled soon regardless of whether it is or not. It's pretty much run its course. Look at the various judges leaving, the stupid fiddling with the semifinal format, the ridiculous number of sob stories by auditioners, the poor CD sales by season 8 singers, and the shrinking size of sucks membership. Aside from Adam, the only really good singer they found last year was Allison--and she was too young to have auditioned before. They're still getting some decent singers, but the pool of really talented people trying out has almost dried up. One problem they have with talent shortages could be fixed easily. Allow anybody who didn't make it to the semifinals who is still young enough to be allowed to audition again. By cutting off people who ALMOST made it and never got voted on by the public, they have really damaged themselves.

That is how people like Gina made it to Hollywood several times before she made the semifinals. Until someone makes the semifinals or reaches the age limit, they have always been allowed to keep auditioning.

Until someone makes the semifinals or reaches the age limit, they have always been allowed to keep auditioning. Season 4 was weird. That was the first season with the chair episodes and they kept asking people if they'd come back should they not make it. I remember reading that they made a rule, though, that if you made it to the top whatever it was to make it to the chair episode, you couldn't come back. Apparently, though, that has changed because I remember reading a bunch of people auditioning this year or last year that made it that far before.

Remove this ad You also have to factor in that there a number of talented singers who DON"T want to be on Idol and if they do turn to Idol, it's a last resort to try to make it. The fan base one attracts while on the show, while potentially large and lucrative, is now seriously an embarrassing albatross. That is, if they stick with you beyond the summer tour and not move on to the next crop of Idols.
