Screenplay is broken up into two categories, adapted and original. Original screenplay goes to the best creative story while adapted goes to the film that condensed an adpated work such as a book and translated it best to film. It's actually an extremely important award because it's the screenplay that determines if the film is made or not.
Editing is a silly award when it comes to guidelines but it's important when it comes to people because editors are the ones who spend the most time on the films. The award for Sound Mixing is given to the people on the set while Sound Editing is given to be off the set. Cinematography it's given to the film that was shot the best, typically the film that is artistically the most impressive. Art Direction goes with how the sets are made up. Visual Effects goes to the most impressive and best executed special effects. Best Score is background music |

It's like the editing rule. Do you think that the voters actually look at the nominees and say to themselves, "Okay, so since this movie has no editing nomination I'm not voting for it for Best Picture"? No, that's ridiculous. And yet the last BP winner without an editing nomination was Ordinary People. Big "upsets" like Brokeback were actually predicted due to the fact that the film in question didn't have an editing nomination. |

Cotillard and Swinton won almost no Precursors until Bafta 2 years ago and went on to win Oscars.
With the backlash against Blindsides BP nom and Sandra's Razzie nom there is oppurtunity there for an upset unfortunately Streep,Sibide and Mulligan all still have people pulling for them to pull off the upset and they are pretty much working against each other and making it likely Sandra Bullock will win with nowhere near 50% of votes . Even though I think Sibide should win I am hoping Streep pulls off the upset so they can finally stop nominating her again and again over more deserving performances. |
