we've got just over 4" in 4 1/2 hrs.
I just put my measuring stake by the back porch so I can see how deep it is from the back door. :)
eta: the weather service has just upped our local totals to 26 - 27.7" by 6pm tomorrow.

yeah, I'm hearing whispers of 4 feet. The Pentagon has been squashing official reports of 48 inches, since it's an Al Qeada snow weapon.
no joke on the 40+ inches though. I hope i wake up to nothing tomorrow. |

40 inches would be kind of funny. As long as I don't lose power or cable.
Ohhh - terrorist snow. |

just went outside. I do have to say that this is the most perfect snowball/snowman snow I have ever seen.

We were fortunate that the first 4-5 hours didn't stick. Not so the stuff that's been coming down in buckets since 5 pm.
The main roads were becoming snow-covered, and were nearly deserted, as of 6:30. |

Despite the first few hours without noticeable accumulation, there's about 4-6 inches on the ground since 5 pm. |

According to WRC-4 (Washington DC's NBC affiliate), 495 in Virginia has been reduced to an accidentfest. The winds have kicked up to like 20-25 mph, which can take an otherwise slippery freeway and turn it into a bumper car course.
They showed a scene of 495 around Tyson's Corners, where even the plows couldn't keep the pavement visible. They also reported that the outer loop is down to 1 passable lane in parts of VA, and that the ramps (including the ramp to 95 South) are becoming unusable. Dulles has 7 inches now, Germantown 6, and "Stephens City" (whereverinthehellthatis ... Virginia? West Virginia?) has 14. |

DC urrea residents take note: Metro service has been suspended above-ground.
Shovelers take note at Polka's post, above: A shovelful of this shit weighs a ton! |

I'm up to about 8-9 inches now. Shoveling is not going to be fun in the morning as they say the worst is about to hit. It's really wet. The dogs are not pleased.

one big branch just broke on a smallish tree in my front yard.
all the trees on the street have limbs so low. safe to predict widespread power outages. if we get 20 inches or more of this heavy snow, i guess i need to worry about my flat roof. snowmageddon indeed. |

We had rain all evening (south of Richmond, VA) and a lot of wind. We are supposed to start getting snow again towards morning. The snow today was very big, wet flakes. We have plans in case we loose the power.
I love the snow. |

I keep getting woken up by our residence condo idiot who is attempting to keep the parking lot clear with his pick up plow. He has managed to build up decent size walls of snow to block in the cars. His public hanging later should be entertaining.
