TimmyTAR wrote: How could I forget about the curling? Another sport I love to watch. I was in Florida during one of the winter Olympics and the stations there made idiots of themselves poking fun at the sport. Only Canadians would throw rocks at each other and consider it a sport. I wished I HAD a rock to throw at them. Those things weigh a ton! Okay, so about 35 pounds but its not like you pick it up and throw it at a person. There is real skill in getting it to curve, glide and stop on a specific spot. Ignorance is not bliss - it can make you look like a fool. You really need a strong back to curl. |

I too am getting very excited for the Olympics, and hoping our Canadian athletes do well. I will be wearing my red mittens in support!
I'm most excited for the curling and hockey. |

I recall when they first started televising curling, my girlfriend at the time and I got seriously hooked on watching it. It's addictive.
Still, I don't know that I can class it in the same league as hockey, which is the sport I'm most looking forward to seeing. Speaking of which, how do the Olympics affect the NHL? Is the league going to play on while all the best players are competing in Vancouver? |

The league is taking a break while the Olympics are on.
People are really beginning to get excited here in town. Well, excited and pissed off at all the road closures! |

So who are we supposed to root for?
The Summer Olympics had Shawn Johnson, Dara Torres and Michael Phelps. The winter Olympics used to have Sarah Hughes, and Michelle Kwan. I guess I will root for Johnny Weir since he's being called the Lady Gaga of Male Figure's Skating. |

I really do hope Johnny Weir brings the drama to the men's competition. I want to see feathers and sparkles and some awesome music! None of that classical stuff!
Oh and I too am looking forward to the curling! It is strangely addictive. I find the luge events to be sorta boring until someone crashes. |

I always enjoy watching the Olympics. This will be the first time on our new big screen HDTV. I'm torn though - living on the US-Canadian border, I find the CBC coverage to be far and above NBC coverage. But I don't get the CBC in HD.

But makes me wonder whether Americans like you Carboy will be able to see the vids. I know that in the past, American friends have watched the live Canadian coverage. Websites for networks have been blocking ability to view content if your IP address does not match their country. |

CBC doesn't have the Olympic rights anymore. CTV & TSN will be carrying the olympics. |

If Canada wins the gold in hockey (either mens or womens) it will be insanity here in Vancouver. And since I am so close to the hockey venue, will be a blast, but could be dangerous. Hoping like hell there would not be a repeat of the Stanley Cup riots of the 90's.
(only in Canada do we have riots over Hockey..ergh) Canada's athletes have a long history of choking in the big moments, so I wont be surprised if they can't hold it together. |

I love the rivalry between him and Evan Lysacek. Evan takes himself too seriously. Johnny's like "bitch, whatever." CURLING! This is why I love the Olympics: I get sucked into events I don't have an earthly clue about yet. I still don't get curling. But I love it. The winter Olympics is the only time I ever watch hockey. |
