He was pretty scary at first, just cause he had kind of a cool name, but by the end of the third season or so his shtick was really tired.

 For some reason Commissioner Gordon from the 1960's Batman TV show scared the living hell out of me. Looking back I can't fathom why since now he seems like a kindly old gentleman, but there was something about his demeanor that made me want to run under my mother's house dress and latch on to her leg. |

There's maybe a handful of characters that scared me when I was a kid. H R Puff 'n Stuff gave me the creeps as did Johnny Whittaker from Family Affair, but Commissioner Gordon had this way about him that sent a shiver up my spine. Now that I think of it whenever I saw Nanette Fabray's nose it always made me feel nausous.
