Partially sunny skies here today. Roads cleared and the couple of inches of drifted snow are no longer an inconvenience. It was almost a non-event.

21.5" was our final total.
Had a blast sledding and tubing with all the kids. In our area, you can be fined if you don't have the front sidewalk shoveled within 24 hrs of the snow stopping. Same with fire hydrants. Out for more fun now! :) |

We were supposed to get a ton of snow on Friday and just got a little bit.
Now they're saying we're supposed to get six inches by tomorrow. |

fed government closed tomorrow. no surprise.
dc public schools open on a 2-hr delay. quite a surprise. i bet they rethink that. i don't see how it's safe for kids to walk to school. and more snow for dc on tuesday and wednesday, which really sucks, bc i haven't dug out my car yet. |

Damn that's a lot of snow. Good thing we are in global warming or that shit could have been bad.
Seriously someone needs to smack Gore. |

I think the snow shrunk some today. We have a big old gnome, Harry, way out in the tundra...yard...and yesterday all I could see was the tip of his hat. Today half his face is visible.

polka dot wrote: Transportation is totally fucked up, roads are blocked or unsafe for a full load of rush-hour traffic, the Penn Line is operating on holiday/snow schedule and I think they said Camden and Brunswick are both no-go tomorrow, so it's no surprise that Fed offices are closed. Delayed opening status implies that transportation is near-normal, which may be true in DC (since not everybody has a car or drives it, anyway). |

it's not safe for kids to walk. most everyone has shoveled their walks around my neighborhood, but not everyone, so you'll have kids walking in the streets, most of which are plowed only for one car-width.
but we do have too many kids in dc, so if this is a way to thin the herd, so be it.

A lot of times where there's a two-hours delay here, it's so they can better assess the situation and sometimes they end up cancelling.

I haven't had power since 3am Saturday morning. Decided to go to a hotel this afternoon as I was tired of being cold. Fucking snow.

OK this is no longer funny. We got 9 inches last weekend, 15 inches this weekend, and I just checked Accuweather and the forecast for Tues/Wed has been increased to 7 inches!
We are not amused. |

i don't see how it's safe for kids to walk to school. Wusses. When I was a kid, I walked seven miles to school through thigh high snow and an ice cold windchill. And half of it was uphill. |
