Well if we just look at one species, the monkey, it hasn't evolved or changed because it didn't need to, like you said.
While we are just one strand of DNA away from them, we are clearly not them and they are still here. So why do you think they needed to change when clearly they haven't. |

Every population is mutating, even if it's not on huge, external terms like growing four arms, albinism, etc. We did not descend from any monkey or ape alive today, nor did they descend from us. Evolution is not linear. We were not the ultimate goal that evolution was leading up to, nor is any living thing--we're a variant of a form that has been very successful at making more of its kind. Nothing evolves in one lifetime: it takes groups and generations. Look no further than royal families to see what inbreeding/lack of variety can do. Individually, mutation and sex add variety to the gene pool. Then the environment (or in rare cases, sexual partner) NON-RANDOMLY dictates which forms survive. Bug skin doesn't camouflage? You don't reproduce. Peacock feathers aren't big enough to attract a lady? you don't reproduce. Can we at least start by admitting dogs evolved, since their origins are recorded? And if we found the skeletons of a great dane and a chihuahua it would be hard to call them the same species? Natural selection doesn't work as fast as human selection, but it's the same principle. If you're a consistent environment, you can have consistent species...in the case of the crocodile, their form is so affective as coastal predators they haven't had to make significant change since the age of the dinos. It's basically a big ass game of Survivor. |

She wasn't the first female alive, when there were only 2 people on earth. She was a member of a population, she had kickass mitochrondria in her cells, and that eventually became the form of every human alive.
