That survivor pretty much stopped caring about casting average people around Guatemala? i was thinking about ti last night And exile was the start of the shit fest casting where people can get on without being a fan and or being a mactor...talk

The history of Survivor shows there is almost no correlation between fans/average Joes/mactors being cast and the quality of the season.

Casaya fucking ruled! One of the best tribe casts ever. I'd say it started after EI. Cook Islands had a shitty cast, followed by Fiji, etc... China wasn't THAT bad when compared to more recent seasons. But for the most part I'd say you're right...AFTER Exile Island.

i think it started on palau actually
whatever the casting people used to do plz do again, i hate most of the recent casts.. the china, tocantins and gabon were pretty diverse though but i agree, just select people who apply! |

Survivor has never cast average people. It's never cast more than 1 or 2 big fans, even in FvF. It originally cast good-looking, interesting but relatable type As. Early contestants are only average aesthetically, and only when you compare them to the muscletanned LA surgery bodies of today. Whether it's editing or casting, the contestants have lost character. I enjoyed Samoa, but half of those people could have been cardboard cutouts w/ recorders attached. And the interesting players have morphed into gross caricatures with
theme music and 3/4ths of the storyline...there isn't any balance.

Amazon. That was the first time I was cognizent of the fact people would go on Survivor and think about the opposite sex instead of winning a million.
Then PI had one of the greatest Mactors of all: Fairplay, Lynn's handywork recruit. I'm saying after Thailand, they pretty much said "we need more hot girls" and thus it was so. -SJ™ |

Exile Island was somewhat of a return to form for Survivor. But then came Cook Islands and Survivor has never been the same =(

I didn't find the Exile Island cast forgettable at all, even some of the early boots were memorable. Shane, Courtney, Cirie, Bob Dawg, Tina, Bruce, Terry, Aras, Sally, Melinda and Austin were just some of the great casting choices.
I think EPR2012 is right. It was a brief return to form for the show. They need to re-examine how they cast people. |

Christ, you've always had hot chicks and built guys on the show.
It's half the reason the show does well. Make 'em roll around in mud in a challenge for added hotness. (And then blur out any hint of rude bits, because the core audience is sexually confused) 50% hotties, 50% nutcases. Throw in a racial minority or two and an old fart. The standard Survivor mix since time began. |
