Last season when Bill found out that Nicki was spying for Roman, he kicked her out.  Now that she is spying for him, she is a “good girl”.  I have a feeling Barb and Nicki can barely tolerate Margene.  Nicki was quick to side with Barb even though she didn’t know what the argument was about. 

I find the Lobbyist storyline very confusing.  Can someone please explain to me what Marilyn was talking about when she told Bill she was there to “extract her pound of flesh?”    

    

I think Marilyn felt Bill owed her something because she helped convince the Congressman to give his support to Bill and she wanted something in return for that.

The term "pound of flesh" comes from the Shakspearian play "Merchant of Venice" and it refers to something that someone has to give to someone else because of a debt owed.  In the play, the Merchant of Venice agreed to loan another person some money in return for that person to give the merchant "a pound of their flesh". But that person's lawyer told the merchant that although they had a right to their pound of flesh, they had no right to anything more. So if they spilled even a single drop of blood when they cut away their pound of flesh, then they would have to pay the penalty for that, which would be death.  And since there was no way for  the merchant to cut off a pound of flesh without spilling any blood, that person didn't have to lose any of their flesh and got off Scott free.

Pretty slick, huh? Shakespeare never liked lawyers very much. I think he was the one who originally penned that joke about killing all the lawyers. By the way, in the play, that person's lawyer was named a lady named "Portia" and I think that is where the name for the German sports car comes from. I think it's a reference to the company owner's daughter who was named "Portia" after the  character in that play.
