I admit I definitely need to do a second and then probably a third rewatch on this episode for the Zapateras alone. Initial Redemption Island Edgic Ometepe Andrea – UTR1: Some background scenes. Needs a higher Vis episode to regain number one spot over Rob. Chances? 8/10. Ashley – UTR1: Some background scenes. Chances? 0/10. Eliminated. Grant – UTRP1: Grant continues to dominate at challenges. That will probably be his post merge story as well. Chances? 0/10. Eliminated. Matt – MOR2: It's almost time for his resurrection. Chances? 1/10: Still holding on to a third choice winner spot. Natalie - UTRN1: The keeper of the crispy rice. She and Phillip both came off looking childish i nthis scene. Chances? 0/10. Eliminated. Phillip - CPN5: His edit is crazy. One episode he is sympathetic, the next he is delusional, then in another he is spot on but is spouting off about his inner animal at the same time. Once again Phillip makes very insightful comments and we get to be in his head. However, he came off looking childish in crispy rice-gate. Also, he is painted as disloyal and untrustworthy by Rob. Chances? 0/10. Eliminated. Rob - CPN4: Rob took the number one winner spot for me this episode. This whole season is about him, and I believe it is about how he wins. He not only gets doubt about his win from Phillip, but Stephanie also warns him that Zap is coming after him as well. It is also alluded that Matt may want to take down Rob if he returns. Rob is getting it from all sides, and I believe this is all clever manipulation. Rob also is shown as a bit cocky and arrogant this episode. This was all done to make it look like Rob might have a more uphill battle than he believes. Very good episode for his chances IMO. Chances: 8/10. Zapatera David – OTTN4: The whole Zap tribe has disintegrated and David is in the center of it all. He is shown as an annoying, arrogant, untrustworthy lawyer. It was over the top and I thought a bit unfair not only to David, but to Sarita and pretty much the whole tribe. They are really being handed a shit edit by the editors. I don't think anyone was the correct side to “root” for on Zapatera this episode. The whole of the tribe was shown as breaking apart and starting to cannibalize each other. I imagine the Zaps will be Pagonged fairly quickly come merge. David continues his almost CP but not quite character this episode. I do have to make him one of the ones to carefully rewatch on a second run through. I thought he pretty much got the slithering lawyer edit, though. Chances: 0/10. Eliminated. Julie - UTR2: I believe Julie and Ralph will be the ones to make it farther than the other Zaps. Her entire storyline revolves around Karma which is brought up for the third or fourth time this episode. She may have tone on rewatch. Chances? 0/10. Eliminated. Mike - UTR3: Maybe MOR? He is very boring so it is always hard for me to try to remember what he said or did. Needs a rewatch. Chances? 0/10. Eliminated. Ralph – MOR3: I almost want to give him P because I felt sorry for him. I think he truly means well and wants to play the game with integrity, but his limited intelligence hinders him. I feel like the editors like to jab at this aspect of his personality as well, which is a tiny bit cruel. He also wanted to remain loyal to Sarita, which was admirable as the rest of the tribe complain and trash talk one another. Chances: 0/10. Eliminated. Sarita – MORN4: Like David, there was no clear side as to who was right and who was wrong. I felt Sarita's edit was mostly just narrated with little manipulation. I have to rewatch her for tone, because she might have been neutral this episode. The weakness in the challenges was highlighted, but I don't think it was done in an ultra-negative way. Chances: 0/10. Eliminated. Stephanie – UTRN1: Annoying chatterbox and ultra sore loser. She takes after Russell well. Chances: 0/10. Eliminated. Steve - MORN4: Another one I need to watch closely on a rewatch. Most of the Zaps are very boring, so I will have to try to do a better job separating them a second time around. I do remember Steve being pointed out as the leader once again. He also seems to be one of the more “gossipy” members. I feel he often tones negative and takes the brunt of it over Mike and Ralph who were painted early as positive characters. Chances: 0/10 Eliminated. I see it more that Philip keeps bragging about taking out Rob, while Rob is easily aware of how precarious his position is, especially considering next week. I see it more Philip attempting a coup and Rob plain-out outplaying him and taking him out. Philip's had insight, but he's been edited as a joke so far, especially these last couple of episodes. I think he's there to give a bit of doubt for Rob, but in the end Rob effortlessly takes him down, perhaps using the idol. I think the whole "Philip takes out Rob" arc is a bit of misdirection, especially considering how they're editing Philip as a buffoon and Rob as aware of his position. That said, I still have Andrea as number one, as she's had her post-merge story set up and has a good edit for a female winner. Yeah, she's had a couple of weak episodes, but it's not like they were important for her. I agree that the lack of a confessional during this big reward is a hit against her, but she may end up going on another big reward later, so I don't think it necessarily hurts her yet. One hit against Rob is just how CP he is, how he's always analyzing his situation every week like a broken record. He doesn't have a merge story set-up yet, but that's because he's been so busy with his pre-merge story of how he's been in control, managing idol clues, and Philip's one-sided war with him. If Rob is the winner, his post-merge story should begin next week. Let's assume Matt returns, which he probably will because lol Sarita. Matt has had little development on RI. He's had the God stuff, yeah, but we haven't had anything as far as his plans if he returns or his thoughts on lasting so long. I'm willing to give a benefit of the doubt and blame the RI portion of the editing being bare bones to cover the rest of the game, but to me Matt needs a stellar CP episode next week, showing his thoughts on lasting so long on RI, how returning to the game benefits him, and his plans for the rest of the game. A lot to cover, yeah, but he should get a big edit as the redemptive player anyway. I think if they edit him as very complex in an attempt to make up for his one-dimensional RI edit, I can see him as a winner's pick. Right now, he has jack shit, but it's easily blamed on the RI editing being wonky. Still don't think favorably of him right now, though. 1. Andrea 2. Rob gap 3. Matt Everyone else: Eliminated Natalie has no story other than being grouped with Ashley as lazy. David's story is very short-term and pretty much ends this episode unless Sarita somehow returns. Either way, I think he'll just be fodder for the Omatepes. For every P moment Philip has, he has two N moments. Everyone else is pretty obvious.

Of course, due to her contender status, I wouldn't be surprised if she gets arguments for being a 2 due to her intense focus during the tree mail reading. If an INV happens, though, I'll be more skeptical of her. Two INVs in one season is a lot of missed time, even if one of them was during another tribe's TC. This season is really well edited from a "fool Edgic" perspective, at least. Three characters that all sort of fit the guidelines, but each with enough problems that a vocal contingent of Edgic says "No fucking way! How can you idiots keep picking him/her!?"

I think his only shot is if he can get Julie and three disgruntled Ometepe's on board to boot the other 3 Zaps first, then go to the F5 by eliminating Rob and his three Zombies. Kind of like what happened on PI except with a 12 player merge as opposed to 10.

I think the "Rob just missing" scene is really a coin flip in its meaning: Either it's truly what happens, or it's to specifically put doubt in whether Rob wins. I gotta say 1. Matt, 2. Rob, 3. Andrea. And kudos to the editors for keeping us guessing until the end.

Their whole mantra from Russell's boot onward has been to value trust over strength.- Until, of course, they're a breath away from the merge and they decide that trust is not as important as keeping someone whom they cannot trust but who may be strong enough to win individual challenges.

Posts: 17856 (03/31/11 10:25 AM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Next week is a big one as it is the merge episode and some of the Ometepe characters may have a chance to shine because they won't be totally in the shadows of BRob and Phillip, hopefully. With Andrea especially, we'll have a chance for some insight with Matt likely returning to the game, and she isn't as secure with BRob as the other two girls are. Regarding the whole INV/UTR debate with her this week I'm not sure it even matters. I personally would say UTR1 because she read tree mail and had a lot of screentime before the challenge, but that's just me. An Edgician would know that the worst thing for a winner candidate is to be ignored for long stretches, which Natalie has been. She hasn't had a confessional since episode four. And her edit has been skewing negative and not been attended to over the past few weeks. If she has a magical merge episode, I'll reconsider but it is not looking good. Andrea has not had long stretches of being ignored, she has had two confessional-less INV/UTR episodes now, yet we're constantly reminded of her role in the game. She's had some complexity and there's a little bit of that feeling of wanting to see/know more about her strategic views on the game. She's been given long-term story arcs with Rob, Phillip and Matt, who are undoubtedly important characters to this season. Having ties with jury members is always important, though we're not sure of how many of these people will end up on the jury. She has a relationship with the two girls as well, though it's not been focused on in like her relationships with the aforementioned men. Nobodys edit looks great right now, but let's face it... it's a special case season where BRob is getting a lot of airtime (and it'd be worse if Russell was still around) and Phillip has emerged as a editor's favorite as well. So for that reason if rules need to be stretched a little, I think that is fair. The bottom line is: next week should be a big determinant in the winners chances for Andrea and Natalie. Otherwise, it's probably Rob or Matt winning this thing.
